I think there could have been more of an historical content. By half way through, it became a love story with rather a lot of sex.
I’m no prude, as I think it was written rather well. I wasn’t really after that much relationship detail!
I also recommended it to a friend before the sex scenes became graphic and plentiful-I’ll have to warn her!
The narrator is excellent.

This title was sold as a crime novel. It was not-well, it was but it was mostly a love story. I didn’t feel at any time like there was any jeopardy.
It was a good love story, but that was not what I wanted to listen to! I haven’t read any other of Nora’s novels, but I wonder if they are similar. Something awful happens, two people come together because of it and eventually overcome stuff in order to have a happy life.
Love story-not crime/thriller.

This book suffers from the fact that the main character is not likeable. He is an idiot! He has all sorts of shortcomings and constantly makes stupid mistakes.
I wanted to know what happens at the end, but it took sooo long!
If he had had some redeeming features, it would have helped, but sadly he just lurched from one disaster to the next.
Not for me-the narrator did a good job, though!

I didn’t enjoy this book at all. I didn’t like Alex and, therefore, couldn’t care less about what happened.
There were holes in the story-if her dress was dry when she was supposed to have been out in the rain for 3 hours-why didn’t the police address this? Alex mentioned it then...nothing.
She drank too much and took drugs. We were supposed to feel sympathy for her-I just wanted to slap her.

I’m in two minds over this book.
The narrators were good. The story was well written and it was ‘sort of’ enjoyable.
On the other hand-I guessed quite early on just what Simon had done, though not exactly the reasons. All the way through Simon’s constant wining got on my nerves.
At the end, I could barely bring myself to listen to Simon’s description of what he’d done, though strangely it wasn’t as heart rending as I thought it would be.
Catherine came across as naive and weak, I just wanted to shake her. I think, maybe, how her thought processes worked were not as believable, given the author is male.
Anyway, it was a good listen spoiled because I knew what had to come out at the end.
And, talking of the end, I thought it could have been better written.

I enjoyed the story-just enough suspense, tragedy and victories. A few too many descriptions of killing the Z’s for my liking. It meant I could not listen to it out loud-headphones or in the car with only my dog for company! My husband doesn’t like descriptive violence.
I like the narrator, but he could have done with a few pointers as to how to pronounce English place names. Folkestone is not Folk Stone. Canterbury is not Canterberry. Not a deal breaker but annoying!
Of course, now I’m hooked I’ll have to wait for a 3 in 1 audio book offer!

Overall I enjoyed the listen, but found the gory details a little off putting.
For example-when trying to get across why a character was particularly cruel, was it really necessary to give a very detailed account of how his father tortured, among other things, a horse? I think not! It felt like the author was enjoying herself a little too much.
I think with better editing, some of the goriness could have been left to our imagination.

The story is revealed slowly and the ending is unexpected in a good sort of way!
Definitely a good listen.
