I'm loving this series of books. Sorry that Helena is dying, Beverly no doubt will get her chance. The image of Martin as the villain was quite horrific and the portrayal of him by Sean Barrett a genius! Arrogant and superficial medical scholars depicted with a cutting wit and sarcasm. You never can tell who is bad, mad or quite simply evil.

When Mark Hartmann is asked to perform a post-mortem on a lab assistant killed by cancer, everything looks straightforward. Before he can discuss this with colleagues, he's called to a conference in Scotland. A serious error of judgement gives a pharmaceutical company a handle on him, and they threaten to expose his excesses unless he falsifies his report on Sweet.

Overall I enjoyed this book.
Disturbed at how two adults can be so intimidated by a ten year old, but it can happen.
Would have liked the investigation to have encompassed Clare's absence from the village.
Would have liked more insight into the dreadful Maryanne.
Felt the end was flat, big let down there.
Loved the narrative.
