The final syllable in every sentence was drawn out and breathy so that sentences ending in S sounded like a snake hiss. Extremely off putting.

A great listen and a wonderful insight of the ordinary German family of the lead up to the war and the war itself. This should be compulsory reading for all older schoolchildren as a warning against populism and nationalism.

I didn’t realise when I bought this audiobook that it was Smiths autobiography and I was a little disappointed when I realised it was. However,I persevered with it and was so glad I did. What an interesting life and,of course, Wilbur Smith’s beautiful prose.

This was far fetched even for Bourne and if you’re not familiar with Arabic names it’s too easy to lose track of the characters.

I enjoyed the first two books in the Milton series but was disappointed with this one. It seems to me it was a hastily written, badly thought out and highly unlikely storyline. I will try the next book in the series and hope the author redeems himself.

As you would expect from Cornwell a great novel, historically correct and superbly narrated. I
