Six years ago, investigator Sid Halley retired for good. He’d been harassed, beaten, shot, even lost a hand to his investigating business, and enough was enough. For the sake of his wife and new daughter he gave up that life of danger and uncertainty, and he thought nothing would ever lure him back into the game. He thought wrong. Sir Richard Stewart, chairman of the racing authority, begs Sid to investigate a series of dodgy races. Sid adamantly refuses, but the following day, Sir Richard is found dead under suspicious circumstances.

What would have made Refusal better?

If someone else had written it. All of the characters had had personality transplants in this book. Felix should have used new characters.

Has Refusal put you off other books in this genre?

I am not put off books in the genre, but i won't ready any more by Felix Francis.

What didn’t you like about Martin Jarvis’s performance?

There were no issues with Martin Jarvis's performance.

What character would you cut from Refusal?

The characters were all old friends and there were nothing wrong with the characters it was the plot and the writer that was the issue.

Any additional comments?

I only got half way through the book before I gave up on it. I have never done this with a Dick Francis book.

What made the experience of listening to The Forbidden Tomb the most enjoyable?

It was a good story line. Strong characters very well written. The story line kept me gripped from the start.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the characters and their complex interaction with each other, the underlying tensions and friendships, but loyalty when it counts..

What about Dudley Hinton’s performance did you like?

Good consistent reading with good characterisation making the story enjoyable to listen too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No it wasn't really that type of book, as it is more military based.

Any additional comments?

Great book. I would recommend it.

It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab.

Now I love the Tv series and bought the books to see how the author had written the story. They bear no relation to the program, which was good once you realise this and listen with fresh ears as if to an unfamiliar author. They are well written but I didn't find it as gripping as I would have liked.

With eleven steeplechasers hurtling over the finish line in this pepped up states and all the dope tests conclusively negative, the Earl of October had something of a problem if he wanted to preserve the health of his favorite sport.

This is my favorite Dick Francis book. A good plot with a strong hero, who is treated unfairly by the Earl he is working for, due to the lies his daughter told. But it all works out in the end, and the mystery of how they are getting the horses to run a faster solved. Gripping story line and believable characters.
