What if the serial killer you were investigating was someone you knew? DS Wendy Knight's first murder case was always going to test her limits, but even she couldn't anticipate that a sadistic serial killer might be someone she knew - very well. As her investigation unfolds, so too does a sinister plot that will turn her world upside down and make it increasingly difficult to distinguish friend from foe in her tight-knit world. By the time Wendy realises she is the killer's final intended victim, she's left fighting against her personal instincts - and for her life.

Nearly missed out on this excellent story because I have a genuine aversion to writers narrating their own work. This time I was wrong the narration was worth 5 stars. Just one question though : who have I fallen in love with D S Knight or Mr Croft?

The book is a stand alone pleasure but if you then add the narration of R C Bray the pleasure quotient is almost beyond measure. The notion that Earth's survival is dependent upon a tin can with a massive ego and an even greater intellect plus lots of something else having a love in with a human being of his time is superb. Just enjoy it!!!

Dexter Morgan isn't exactly the kind of man you'd bring home to your mum. At heart he's the perfect gentleman: He has a shy girlfriend and seems to lead a quiet, normal life bordering on the mundane. Despite the fact that he can't stand the sight of blood, he works as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But Dexter also has a secret hobby: He is an accomplished serial killer. So far he's killed 36 people and has never been caught because he knows exactly how to hide the evidence.
