There used to be two teams in every workplace: management and labor. Now there's a third team: the linchpins. These people invent, lead (regardless of title), connect others, make things happen, and create order out of chaos. They figure out what to do when there's no rule book. They delight and challenge their customers and peers. They love their work, pour their best selves into it, and turn each day into a kind of art. Linchpins are the essential building blocks of great organizations.

In 1991, Gerald Ratner was booked to make what should have been an everyday speech at the Institute of Directors. Should have been. When the word "crap" came out of his mouth in connection with products sold by his company, it all turned out slightly different. The Rise and Fall...and Rise Again tells the full story, in Ratner's own words, of what led him to that point, the horror of the immediate aftermath, the fallout, and the comeback. This is the first time Ratner has given his side of the story. And what a story it is.

This is just a rework of all the books and seminars he's been to. If you are well read on personal development and their motivational creators (Robbins, Vaynerchuk, Cardone, Sharma, Rohn, etc, etc,) you will easily be able to trace the origins of all Voogd's material. He references many of his sources but truth be told, none of this work is original, new, or his own. It also has nothing to do with making 6-figures.

It's a compendium of other people's wisdoms but, as such, does offer some value to that end.

If you struggle with binge eating, emotional eating, stress eating, or if you repeatedly manage to lose weight only to gain it all back, you may be approaching things with the wrong mindset. Most contemporary thought on overeating and bingeing focuses on healing and self-love. But people who've overcome food and weight issues often report it was more like capturing and caging a rabid dog than learning to love their inner child.

We're in the middle of an epidemic of average. So-called "normal" people get up every day, go to work, do what's asked of them, leave promptly at five, and return home to sit on the couch and watch TV. Society tells us that this is what it means to lead a balanced life. Don't stress too much or work too hard. Your career isn't everything. But Grant Cardone thinks this preoccupation with balance has really just given an excuse to be mediocre.

If you like Grant Cardone, you'll like this. It's a motivational rant most of the time. Little actual content but it serves as a call to action in similar ways to 10X. I like the fact that he appears to be pretty unedited in the audiobook and says some pretty outrageous stuff that I can't imagine the book editors would ever allow in. If you haven't read or listened to 10X yet, that's a better book. If you have, this is more of the same just not quite as good.
