This book wasn’t quite what I had expected - it didn’t focus on the ‘main’ character and her development as much as I thought it would. It covers two time periods and tells these from a number of different perspectives, so I found myself a bit frustrated at times waiting to get back to the ‘main’ story.

However, the different story trails throughout were interesting, and the narrator’s performances were brilliant.

Recommended as an easy, feel good listen.

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Spectacles, the hilarious, creative and incredibly moving memoir from much loved comedian, writer and presenter Sue Perkins. When I began writing this book, I went home to see if my mum had kept some of my stuff. What I found was that she hadn't kept some of it. She had kept all of it - every bus ticket, postcard, school report....

I loved everything about this book except for one thing: the main female character under threat kept behaving so stupidly! It was so frustrating listening to all of her bad decisions!

Apart from that, another winner from Peter James

Hooked throughout entire story by likeable and believable characters creating a real feeling of being invested in what happens to them.

Main narrator is wonderful, wasn't so keen on a couple of the supporting narrators so that's why performance has 4 stars. But overall, brilliant!

Claiming this book to be Girl on a Train meets Gone Girl sets really high expectations, and unfortunately this book just doesn't meet them. The plot is too rushed in places and drags in others, and I felt the narrators voice very hard to pay attention to, often losing track of what was being said or which character was talking.

When Amber Hewerdine consults a hypnotherapist as a desperate last resort, she doesn't expect that anything much will change. She doesn't expect it to help with her chronic insomnia. And she doesn't expect to hear herself, under hypnosis, saying words that mean nothing to her: 'Kind, cruel, kind of cruel'. These are words she has seen somewhere before, if only she could remember where….
