One of the world’s most recognisable sci-fi stories, H. G. Wells’ The War of The Worlds established numerous conventions for the genre, including the threat of an invasive extraterrestrial species, space travel and intergalactic conflict, inspiring directors, gamers, producers and writers alike with its sobering story of struggle and survival. Marrying the suspense, drama and urgency of Wells’ original novel with Jeff Wayne’s rousing and flamboyant score, Audible’s new and exclusive dramatisation uses action, narration, original music and evocative sound design to immerse listeners in a world that’s as thrilling as it is desolate.

Summary of war of the worlds for me

(1) Loved the LP from childhood, introduced it to my two kids ( they love it as grown men )
(2) Attended three live shows

(3) Hated the Tom cruise film (I know it is not related to anything the amazing Jeff Wayne has done)
(4) Do not enjoy Liam neesons dull commentary in new generation at all (trying to follow Richard needs more effort)

And then this audiobook comes along and blew me away.
It is incredible. Micheal sheen for all intent and purpose IS Richard burton!! He gets the intonation bang on and it is a really respectful performance considering who he is following ( excluding Liam neeson ! )
The production and the musicians are first rate and to me it is on a par with the original.

I was smiling so much to hear Carrie and the journalist having tea and cake. Love the back story to the story we all ready know and love!

Jeff make a movie with this story with this very approach to quality of acting and production.

Thank you for remaining true to your interpretation of the classic

Here are the rules. Method: you can't use a gun. You can't use explosives. You can't use poison. It has to be up close and personal. You don't have to worry about leaving evidence; that will be taken care of. Victim: no one suicidal. No one over the age of 65. No one with a terminal illness. Choose your method. Choose your victim.

It's 1998. The Internet age is still in its infancy. Google has just been founded. Eighteen-year-old supermarket shelf-stacker Nigel Carmelite has decided that he's going to become a vigilante. There are a few problems: how is he going to even find crime to fight on the streets of Derbyshire? How will he create a superhero costume - and an arsenal of crime-fighting weaponry - on a shoestring budget?

Nobody knew where it came from. Nobody knew why it came. When an eight-foot-tall man made of stone appears in the middle of a busy city center one July afternoon, two-bit (and antisocial) reporter Andy Pointer assumes it's just a publicity stunt. Indeed, so does everyone else...until the Stone Man begins to walk, heading silently through the wall of the nearest building, flattening it, and killing several people inside as a result.

An epic story of survival at all odds and one of the most anticipated books of the year. In a ruined and hostile landscape, in a future few have been unlucky enough to survive, a community exists in a giant underground silo. Inside, men and women live an enclosed life full of rules and regulations, of secrets and lies. To live, you must follow the rules. But some don't. These are the dangerous ones; these are the people who dare to hope and dream, and who infect others with their optimism.
