Jo Brand is one of Britain's funniest and best-loved comedians. With a sharp eye for the absurd and in her own unique voice, she tells her story for the first time. What possessed her to become a professional comedian in the cut-throat world of stand-up comedy after 10 years as a psychiatric nurse? How did she deal with late-night drunken audiences? Raised in middle class comfort, Brand left home in her teens to live with someone entirely inappropriate.

A disgraced college lecturer is found murdered with £5,000 in his pocket on a disused railway line near his home. Since being dismissed from his job for sexual misconduct four years previously, he has been living a poverty-stricken and hermit-like existence in this isolated spot. The suspects range from several individuals at the college where he used to teach to a woman who knew the victim back in the early '70s at Essex University, then a hotbed of political activism.

What would have made Children of the Revolution better?

less stodgy description and more action in the storyline

What was most disappointing about Peter Robinson’s story?

I took it on holiday to for holiday listening but it was too boring to continue with. I had to abandon it after one hour. luckily I had another book in reserve

Any additional comments?

I was surprised that I didn't like it as I love the TV programmes of DCI Banks.

You don't just wake up jaundiced and bitter; it's taken Jack years of dedication and commitment to brew his unique cocktail of disillusionment and bile. Would you consider the audio edition of Tycoon to be better than the print version?

Peter Jones passion for his subject and his desire to help the listener in their entrepreneurial journey comes across even more strongly in the audio book. Shame the audio book is only a very small portion of the printed version.

What about Peter Jones’s performance did you like?

All of it. Peter Jones' mix of sense of humour and tycoon success

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Motivating, inspiring. It is fantastic to hear the author speaking of his own business experiences. I've saved this audio book to listen to regularly as a motivational aid.
