Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would certainly recommend this book to all my female friends - I usually choose thriller type books, but this one has surprised and thoroughly entertained me. Great story very well narrated, exciting and touching, but not at all soppy!

What other book might you compare The Woman He Loved Before to, and why?

I listened to the Ice Cream Girls before, also enjoyable, better than the tv adaptation, but not as good as the above.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Thrilling modern day tale of life, love and the depths some have to sink to.

Clare Balding grew up in a rather unusual household. As her father is a champion trainer, she shared her life with more than 100 thoroughbred racehorses, mares, foals, and ponies, as well as an ever-present pack of boxers and lurchers. As a toddler she would happily ride the legendary Mill Reef and take breakfast with the Queen. She and her younger brother came very low down the pecking order. Left to their own devices, they had to learn life’s toughest lessons through the animals, and through their adventures in the stables.

Consisting of four novels - Some Do Not, No More Parades, A Man Could Stand Up and The Last Post - Parade's End is the story of Christopher Tietjens and his progress from the secure world of Edwardian England into the First World War and beyond. Tietjens embodies the values of that ordered, predictable, hierarchic society of pre-1914. Contrasted with him and portrayed with equal clarity and depth is his wife Sylvia - beautiful, arrogant, reckless - a symbol of the new times.
