Good to brush up on key events but not much depth. That's to be expected though.

This would be better to read and even dip into. The author seemed like he was recording in his bedroom and rushing to get to the end of each section.

Great bite-sized intro to major philosophical threads from ancient world to present. Doesn't dwell on individuals but presents the ideas chronologically and simply.

A great span of history covered. The best section for me was the end which looked at the reopening of the Silk Road with a resurgent China and oil-rich central and southwest Asia. Only bit missing there was peak oil. No discusiion of what that and the switch to renewables will do to trade. Just like Europe, the Middle East is about to experience a period of structural change.

Great story about Humboldt who should be more widely known. The book does well to explore the people influenced by him including Bolivar, Darwin and more. The strength of the book though is in ripping the yarns of the 18/19th century and the world which he transformed.
