First let me say Joanne Froggatt is an excellent narrator Her voice is clear and precise and she manages to get to different voices especially from male to female without overdoing it but you know that they are different...for her narration alone I would have given this review 5 stars but for me the book just ran out of gas....the story and the build up were excellent..but for me the ending was a bit of a let down...I remember when the baddies were clarified thinking but there quite a few chapters to go how is this going to pan out when a lot has already been revealed?...by that time I had already guessed the culprit..it won,t be one of those books I remember with relish I,m afraid

This book helps the layman understand the complex world of physics although I did have to go back and listen to sections to really grasp what the narrator was saying.....but the narrator has a voice to die for...I could listen to him all day a very soothing assured voice... and maybe now I am just a tiny bit wiser....

When this first started I wasn't sure if I would like it...it was more like listening to a radio show not the usual audible just reading book...but I soon got into it...some of the character voices were weaker than others... I thought that Max Beesley as the lead was excellent but the women weren't quite so engaging....it did go at a fairly fast pace, although I found my attention waning slight in the middle...but the end?...well with out spoiling it there were so many twists I never saw I was almost reeling by the end of the book...and everything tied up nicely which I like in a story (although the thing at the moment is to leave you wondering at the end which I hate) the prologue and the epilogue met so to speak ...a very enjoyable listen overall...it must have been because I cleaned up the whole house without noticing whilst listening and that for me is a sign of a good book!

Loved this book all the twists and turns, Paul Michael did a great job narrating as well,
with excellent voices so as I could picture all the characters including the females in my minds eye I was a little confused at the end of the lost symbol but this book tied the ends up nicely

Any additional comments?

I thought this book was very well written, fast paced dealing with just the story and not being over descriptive about characters and places it goes back and forwards if that makes sense but its easy to keep up with because there are definate markers (aparently this seems to be the authors style as I noticed another reviewer make this comment on another of her books. Thought this would make a pretty good tv drama too (didnt realize she was the author of the brilliant tv drama broadchurch) the only two criticisims I would add is firstly the narration wasnt that brilliant and the 'voice' of the character kerry really grated on me I know she was supposed to be a bit of an air head but the narrator made her sound simple! secondly I had hoped the final revelation had been a bit more well 'bad' for want of a better word still all in all a great book....it must have been because I cleaned the house and did my ironing whilst listening to it and got the work done in no time at all!

Really enjoyed this book great characters and the narration brought them all to life and a neat tied up ending which has been missing from the last few books I have read

This was a great story using Jack the ripper as a may be character Considering it was written so long ago it has made a great transition to the 21st century. Wasnt so keen on the american lady narrating some of her characters especially the young constable character sounded like a Dick van Dykes attempt at an English accent but in the end I learnt to live with it as I felt the story was to good not to listen to

Didnt think I would like listening to an Australian narrating (Not because I dont like Australians I think they are great) but I found Michael carmans voice to be very engaging with good characterisation. I love supernatural tales and this was very good moving along at a good pace One thing I have never read a book in which so many people threw up in the characters were doing it all the time (Prehaps the nora virus was doing the rounds!) I felt it did seem to get over zealous towards the end with the supernatural stuff but overall it was very good with a twist that I never saw coming

Firstly have to say hate the new audible format..secondly also hate the way they now give you question boxes for your review...like sitting an exam or filling in an application form! Now for my review....I really liked this story it was gripping and I listened to it late one evening when the rest of the household went to bed and i was looking over my shoulder whilst ironing & listening.I personally love David Rintouls narration and his character voicesI felt the ending was fine (I know some reviewers thought it ended abruptly) The only criticism I would have was that a lot of the characters seemed to be perfect and the descriptions of how beautiful they were did get on my nerves. why couldnt one of the heroines be over weight without a dress sense? The best F.G Cottam for me was the waiting room ,although this one did come in second

I loved this book, so much so that for the last chapter I was listening to it on my ipod in bed at 1am so I knew the outcome before I went to sleep! I particularly liked the way the town & and area were well described; you could feel the oppression and the characters were well written and the dry humour of some of them made me laugh out loud a couple of times.

As other listeners have said Sean Barrett is a master story teller his different voices both male & female are very very good; I had a picture in my mind of the characters just by them alone. Will definately be looking to read more of Mr Rickmans books and to listen to the wonderful narration of Mr Barrett Marvelous!
