A book that explains how and why we've got ourselves into such a mess :-)

This book is a fascinating story about how and why Orwell wrote 1984 and the history of the book since his death. It's partly an Orwell biography and partly a history of the last 120+ years seen through the prism of the book. It ends with a wonderful line from Orwell which is just perfect for our time. Wonderfully read by Andrew Wincott who coincidentally read the audiobook of 1984 that I listened to recently. It was like having Winston read the book to me. Great twist.

Great performance from Robert Hardy. Story is a bit choppy but some very funny and poignant bits.

The only reason I gave this 3 stars is because of Richard Armitage's performance which was flawless. The story itself starts off well but soon deteriorates. It's so far fetched as to be idiotic and the last great "reveal" was blindingly obvious almost from the beginning. The story flows poorly with great jumps, underdeveloped stories and characters. Mostly it was ok and filled the time but the ending was truly rubbish.

Very well read. Richard Armitage is so good at all the voices that you forget it's just him. I enjoyed the story although it is rather far fetched. Just go with it and you'll really enjoy it.
