She always went to far. DS Alexandra Cupidi has done it again. She should have learnt to keep her big mouth shut after the scandal that sent her packing - resentful teenager in tow - from the London Met to the lonely Kent coastline. Murder is different here, among the fens and stark beaches. She was the one who found the killers. The man drowned in the slurry pit had been herded there like an animal. He was North African, like many of the fruit pickers that work the fields. The more Cupidi discovers, the more she wants to ask - but these people are suspicious of questions.

And I’ve been through a lot of audiobooks.

Loved this. Plot. Character development. Atmosphere. Narration. Really subtle and understated - but gripping at the same time. The Kent setting lends it an interesting angle and adds to the atmosphere. The family relationships are touching. The timely issues dealt with well.

Only gripe is the audio levels seemed to drop off occasionally.

Would highly recommend - and really hope it develops into a series - would be great to see the characters developed further.

Joseph O'Loughlin appears to have the perfect life: a beautiful wife, a loving daughter, and a successful career as a clinical psychologist. But nothing can be taken for granted. Even the most flawless existence is only one loose thread away from unravelling. All it takes is a murdered girl, a troubled young patient - and the biggest lie of his life.

...but terribly hammy narration. Over the top and kind of spoils what is a great book.
