Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables: men and women who made too many mistakes, didn't follow the rules, or...slept with the wrong general's daughter. Three times. On camera. It was a mistake, okay? My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit".

Just brilliant. I had to take 2 days annual leave because there was no way I could stop listening to it. It's got all the energy of the Arisen series and if you've listened to any of the other books, very relatable characters.

I listened to the first two books in the series last year and loved them. I thought the third would never appear and was delighted when it did. Well worth the wait falls short; it was cracking!! Expertly read with pace when required, the narrator does the last instalment justice. The story is immersive and, as with the others, not-put-downable!

The Purity of Vengeance issue on audible.com aside, this is a superb story, expertly read.

The balance of humour and honest to God tragedy is extremely well done. The core subject matter exposes the brutality and narrow minded self serving attitudes of a long gone time. That is to say, I sincerely hope those attitudes have no grounding anywhere on earth any more.

If you've enjoyed his previous dept Q books, I'm sure you'll love this. If you haven't had the pleasure of any of them, crack on!

I thought this was as good if not better than the Travis Chase 'Breach' series. The pace is excellent and unlike some other 'heroes', Sam Dryden is he kind of guy you'd want to drop in on again.
The narration is brilliant, done by the same guy who knocked 'Under the Dome' out of the park.
I'm looking forward to Patrick Lee's next one already.

There are a lot of reviews here and they all cover what I wanted to say so I'll just sum up.

I loved it from start to finish. The characters are all, main and incidental, so real and rounded. The challenges, and settings for them, are well thought out and exciting.

Lastly, the narration was brilliant and each character was recognisable.

To echo another reader, I'll miss the gang, Sister, Josh and Swan.

Joyland is a whodunit noir crime novel and a haunting ghost story set in the world of an amusement park. It tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a 'carny' in small-town North Carolina and has to confront the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the way both will change his life forever. It is also a wonderful coming-of-age novel about friendship, loss, and your first heartbreak.
