Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe.

I really loved the Bobiverse books. I've never come across a storyline like it. They made me laugh out loud at times and well up with emotion at others.

Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct. But political squabbles have a bad habit of dying hard, and the Brazilian probes are still trying to take out the competition. And the Bobs have picked a fight with an older, more powerful species with a large appetite and a short temper.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

I was worried about this book as I have loved many authors first books only to be let down with their follow ups, not this time though, I loved the story. I wasn’t sure about Rosario when I first started listening but I was fully immersed after a couple of chapters.

Bob Johansson has just sold his software company and is looking forward to a life of leisure. There are places to go, books to read, and movies to watch. So it's a little unfair when he gets himself killed crossing the street. Bob wakes up a century later to find that corpsicles have been declared to be without rights, and he is now the property of the state. He has been uploaded into computer hardware and is slated to be the controlling AI in an interstellar probe looking for habitable planets.

And it is hurtling through the solar system at inconceivable speed. Then a space probe confirms the unthinkable: Rama is no natural object. It is, incredibly, an interstellar spacecraft. Space explorers and planet-bound scientists alike prepare for mankind's first encounter with alien intelligence.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I really love this book and have read it a number of times in dead tree form, I was really excited when an e-mail from Audible advised me that it was available to buy as it was one of the first books I looked for when I signed up.
This is an exciting and vibrant book full of wonder and mystery made cold, grey, dull and oh my god tedious by the slow, flat, monotone narration. It's like listening to an old maths teacher who has given up the will to live going over material that he has been teaching for the past four decades to a class of dead eyes students.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Worst narrator ever. How does this guy get so much work?
