I have listened to every book in the series and enjoyed this a lot. However, I think I may have to go back through the series as there were a few references that I'd forgotten.

I haven't like reading/listening to previous Stephen King novels as there was often too much preamble. I was in the story right from the beginning. I also often find American accents difficult to listen to when it's as intense as it is when listening to an audio book. I really enjoyed this.

A poor imitation of Stranger Things

The blurb says - 'for fans of Stranger Things'. It isn't, really as Stranger Things is much better.

The premise is as near as dammit identical but set in Britain. The narration was good and so was the story but it's a rip off.

And... Spoiler Alert - a very stupid and annoying and unnecessary ending. Ruined it.

Dreary narration. Dull characters. Predictable arc. Why would I want to continue listening passed chapter 2?

I've given it to halfway through chapter 2. Writing and reading by numbers. How has it got such good reviews?

Spoiler alert!

The book was read really well and was a compelling listen but, towards the end, I realised it was going to do a 'Lovely Bones' and forgive the person who hurt the main character. I hated that ending in The Lovely Bones and I hated this. At least the device was original in TLB but this is direct plagiarism.

The premise and the start offered much more - nothing consequential happened until the last chapter - I kept hoping. It wasn't worth it.

I didn't read any reviews until I'd read the first book, Extracted, and nearly stopped reading but I'm glad I didn't. I had to keep going until I'd heard all 3. Completely gripping, incredibly well read (particularly no saccharine 'women's' voices).

Surely somebody checks the quality of the reading before the audiobooks are published?

Steven Pacey is awful. There's no light and shade and expression - just droney reading as if reading News headlines - which are read at a level in order not to offend or alarm listeners.

Dull & dreary - I've no idea about the story because I couldn't listen/hear through the droning.

I was intrigued at the start, mainly because of the Magpie title, but lost interest as the story progressed and am within 90 minutes of the end and can't be bothered.

Too many cliched characters.
