It begins with an abduction. The routine of a family shopping trip is shattered when Michelle Spivey is snatched as she leaves the mall with her young daughter. The police search for her, her partner pleads for her release, but in the end...they find nothing. It’s as if she disappeared into thin air. A month later, on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, medical examiner Sara Linton is at lunch with her boyfriend Will Trent, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. But the serenity of the summer’s day is broken by the wail of sirens.

I usually love the Jackman series but was disappointed by this book. The story was unbelievable. They way the characters spoke was just a bit too cliche. Too many super intelligent characters with annoyingly upper class accents.

Slow to get going, but an enjoyable listen. I would have scored 4 for the story but the ending was a little strange (as in a lack of detail on one case and stating the obvious on another). The characters were not really that believable and a little cliche, but the narrator was good. A mixed bag.

I love Karin Slaughter (read all of her books)and was very excited to listen to this one. I forced myself through it! Keep hoping that it would get better; but it didn’t.

The story itself was good but I felt no compassion and didn’t even like any of the characters. Jayne/Laura and Andrea just irritated me. The “mum” - “Andrea” dialogue at the beginning was toe curling. The women were weak and I couldn’t connect with either character. This is so different from the usual female characters from her previous books. Let’s hope this is a one off.

Good story but just get a bit bored of Bosch being the only ‘smart’ cop and each book goes with a different woman with no mention of the woman he thought was amazing in his last book. Maybe it’s a book of its time. Generally a good listen with a great narrator.
