a humourous account of the challenges of giving up city life and becoming a smallholder. don't expect to learn technical details of how to do so. enjoyable light-hearted listen

although I've given it a modest rating I did really enjoy this book but was dissatisfied with the very abrupt ending. it was like listening to someone reminiscing but being unable to ask questions to draw out further detail on the really interesting bits (not that any of it was dull). I think as the authors unusual life was so normal to her it was almost as though it was hard for her to gage which bits would leave the audience wanting further elaboration. Still I would thoroughly recommend it.

this book was brilliant for a butterfly / nature enthusiast like myself who can't get out and about at the moment, took the edge off being stuck indoors and taught me new things about some of my favourite species. a great listen, highly recommend

I loved 'notes from a small island' so thought I would enjoy thus. it was OK, it passed the time, but I was left feeling that someone who may have got more out of it should have taken the European trip. he was just passing the time and seemed not to enjoy it. although I did enjoy the northern lights at the beginning I otherwise found the whole trip uninspiring.
