I enjoyed this book and it kept me guessing, however, the author seems to have put the element of surprise ahead of plausibility and then signed it off with the fact that we'll probably never truly know the whys. Disappointing ending and a bit of a cop out (pun intended 😁)!

Easy enough to listen to but too many cliches with explanations of basic behaviour/procedures that most readers of detective novels know well already. For me, the better detective novels don't spoon feed the readers quite as much. That said, the characters are well written and there's lots of promise, especially given that this is a debut novel. Narration was good.

I found this really disappointing. It was easy to guess whodunit early on, althoughthe reason why is hard to fathonu. The dialogue is repetitive and the idea that the other police officers couldn't have worked more out themselves, without Kate's help, is ludicrous.

I love these stories and the characters within them. You need to listen in order as Lottie's personal life is as much part of the story as the murders. I feel like shaking the detective sometimes when she can be so self-involved and impulsive but I always want her to come through. I did find this one a little far-fetched in it's conclusion, but it didn't matter as I really enjoyed the story anyway which, as usual, has many layers. I look forward to the next!

I tried to like this and persevered until the end but I found I just wasn't interested enough. There are a lot of cliches and it's unrelatable and ridiculous. There aren't any likeable characters to route for and the narrator is so earnest and repetitive over everything. Having said all that it is clear the narrator/author has a storyteller's mind and is full of ideas and passionate about what she does so I'm sure future novels will be better.

I had to push myself a bit to persevere with this as I didn't find the situation very interesting and thought many of the reveals predictable. There was some intrigue though which kept me going. I thought the characterisation was well thought out but found Melanie quite annoying and Ben almost saintly! The idea that Abi was kind at the beginning seems unlikely as it seems unlikely that they would have been friends in the first place but people are often unpredictable. Joanne Froggatt's narration is great. I think possibly if Amazon recatogerised this as more family drama / chic lit, then expectations would be more in line with what the novel is and it would be pitched at the target audience who would appreciate it more.

I often struggle with this narrator and found the story quite silly in places unfortunately.

This is an easy read/listen which is narrated very well, but I was a bit disappointed with it. It takes a while to build up, the characters are all pretty miserable, then everything happens at once. The last twenty minutes or so throws in one twist too many making it feel ridiculous rather than shocking. Sorry. Like I say, an easy listen but don't set expectations too high for a gripping psychological thriller.
