I feel sorry to write this review as I have previously loved Sophie Kinsella books and was excited about this new one. But unfortunately, I couldn’t even finish it. It was so dull and boring.
Story line was weak and uninteresting, mainly about a high road shop, which I doubt anyone would care about. The characters were overly stereotypical and frankly, I found them annoying.
I kept waiting for the humour which is usually prevalent in Kinsella’s books but it never came. Felt almost cringeworthy, as if trying too hard when none of it was in the least bit funny.
Very disappointed, I had to return the book.

I loved this book from the very first moment. Wonderful narration, I fell in love with Mattie and Elizabeth immediately.
So sad in many ways but also a sense of triumph as love conquers.

I feel like I have heard this book many times before. Child goes missing and you follow the story of the family and the aggressor. Nothing new and not even remotely interesting. There was no suspense or even a sense of intrigue. I wanted to give up many times but persevered in the hope it would get better given that it had such good reviews. It didn’t. Only the last hour was in the slightest bit interesting and the ending was an anti climax.
Can’t understand at all how it got so many stars and ‘amazing’ reviews... I think people must to paid to do so to give good publicity.
I will be returning

The storyline is a good one and I was excited to see how it unraveled.
However, the narration was awful, boring and monotone with all the voices sounding the same and lacking any enthusiasm or emotion. You knew where the story was going very early on and it was a tedious wait for it to get anywhere. There was no suspense at all and I wanted to give up so many times.
The only good part was the last few chapters, but even then it was only marginally better. I am honesty dumbfounded at how this book got so many good reviews.
It's a shame as the initial plot was quite genius and had the potential to be thrilling, but I just found it lacking in so many ways.

Waited for the twist that never arrived.

The worst ending ever. I thought there would be some major twist or at least a good explanation at the end of the story. Alas, it never came. The book was well narrated and I enjoyed it for the most part. But the ending was given away before the last two hours, which made me think there must be more to the story so I kept on listening. However, nothing more really happened. The last two hours were boring and I felt my interest faltering with each of the last chapters. Such a shame as this book had the potential to be such a gripping story but it was a big let down. Almost as if the author had lost interest/inspiration.
