I really wasn’t sure about this... a YA book (I am not a YA!)... but I enjoyed MR’s Scarecrow series, so thought I’d give it a try.

I was pleasantly surprised to be quickly absorbed and I was up half the night listening. I actually found it a little scary at times, but it’s not gruesome or horror, just suspenseful.

Anyway, don’t be put off by the YA label, it’s really a mystery/sci-fi tale with a high-school backdrop, but fairly quickly shifts focus to an impending apocalypse and mysterious goings on... am looking forward to the next instalment!

Well narrated too!!

R.C. Bray was as flawless as ever... he really brings the characters to life! Am actually not sure if I’d enjoy the books as much if I were reading them... he is that good!

Also, loved hearing Alanson’s journey to becoming a full time writer... wow... what commitment! Am very glad he persisted and found a way to publish!!

Can’t wait for the next instalment!

Would have enjoyed this story a lot more if the main character wasn’t so absurdly perfect. The woman makes superheroes look pathetic... body of model, photographic memory, can code better than GCHQ, skis like an Olympian and so on and so forth... which, makes all her accomplishments far less impressive!

I would also say, this wet-dream of a character would be the first woman I’ve ever known to be so easily distracted by a handsome face! Seriously?!! Her laughable “libido” issues drag the book down from a lighthearted thriller to something much more eye rolling... maybe it’s one for the boys?

Well read for a first time reader... hopefully she’ll have something more substantial to read in the future!

If there is a sequel I might give it a go, but only because I think the author has potential. Less superheroes, less talking about libidos and more depth... then I’ll be back!

I was quite excited by the potential of this book, lots of big names involved, but the end result was disappointing. My main issue was that I found the president boring. He spends too much time pondering & lamenting everything and his internal dialogue is largely tedious. The start is also slow and the impeachment saga leaves me feeling like Clinton is unable to separate his personal frustrations with US politics from this fictional writing. If there is a next time, I hope Patterson can use his red pen a bit more!

Also, Dennis Quaid, who I’m very happy to watch on the screen, does not make a great narrator. His voice is too distinctive and lacks variety. I can see the appeal of using a famous actor, but really the professional narrators are much better! So, I fear his performance was the final nail for me, but ultimately the whole thing was hard work.

If there is a 2nd book, I’ll probably give it a go, but only because I hope they can sharpen it up next time... fingers crossed!

I bought this on a whim, desperate to find a new series to get into... am so glad I did!! It has an excellent cast of characters and a well paced storyline. I wouldn’t say the description of the book really reflects the story, but it’s a good tease I guess. Really the story has two storylines, both excellent, that give you the backstories on what I assume will become the main characters

Wasn’t a fan of the author’s intro, beyond the useful explanation of how this books fits into his previous ones. Narrator was excellent... will be checking out his other work!

I rarely write negative reviews, but I am baffled as to why so many people gave this 5*s. The interview style is tedious & laborious ... character development was minimal due to the format and I just kept wondering when the interviews would end and the story begin.

I also found some narrators had really over-performed their parts and the screaming was painful!

Overall, would not recommend if you're looking for a fast-paced or action-packed audiobook!!
