Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read.

Not sure how this received so many 5 star reviews. I found the plot completely implausible and the characters deeply unlikeable. I had figured out the twists well ahead of their reveals. I persevered through this book on the strength of the reviews but wish I hadn't. I found the mills and boon sex scenes far too frequent and unnecessary also. Returned for a refund.

I am not very familiar with the Warhammer universe/lore other than playing the Total War games (which are great). Based on my appreciation of these games i decided to give this book a go. It is safe to say that the book requires the reader to have a good understanding/familiarity with the Warhammer world and lore. I spent most of the book not understanding what was going on. I tried to keep up to begin with by seeking clarification on some of the names/terms used but soon had to abandon that as it was every other sentence that I had to check.

No doubt this would be an excellent book if you are already a fan of Warhammer and know the language and terminology. I just couldn't follow what was happening as my understanding of the subject matter is severely lacking.

With astounding access to all the key players of the time, including members of Green Day, The Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, and many others, renowned music writer Ian Winwood will at last give this significant, substantive, and compelling story its due. Punk rock bands were never truly successful or indeed truly famous, and that was that - until it wasn't. Smash! is the story of how the underdogs finally won and forever altered the landscape of mainstream music.

Fantastic book. It could have been twice the length and I still would have been left wanting more. Punk rock was the soundtrack to my youth and continues to be the soundtrack of my mid-to-late thirties. There could not have been a better group of bands to be exposed to as a fed up and isolated youth in the mid 90s. Up the punks.

[Contains explicit content]. University student Anna Winslow has gone missing. The circumstances of her disappearance are far from ordinary, a fact that only fellow student Melissa Lopez appears to appreciate. Motivated by an unexplained and disturbing voicemail message from Anna on the night of her disappearance, Melissa's curiosity quickly turns into a deeper investigation, an obsession even, which she chronicles as a regular podcast - the very recordings that you are about to listen to.

I honestly cannot believe this book is from the same author as "The Girl On The Train".

There are simply too many characters in this book and I did not care about a single one. I could not understand their motivations or actions because without exception every single character lacked any real depth or personality. I found the switching between first and third person completely jarring and unnecessary which led to a quite frankly miserable listening experience.

This is such a disappointing book and I persevered with it for far longer than I normally would have done and made far more allowances with the book (especially early one where the book is downright ponderous) purely on the strength of the author's previous work. However in the end I simply could not justify spending any more time trudging through such an unenjoyable work of literature and returned this book with 3 hours to go.

Paula Hawkins next work will have to be a unequivocal return to the standard of writing displayed in her debut before I even consider reading a single word of hers again.

I feel somewhat duped with this one after I read the publisher's summary, in particular "A propulsive and ambitious novel as electrifying as the television seriesThe Wire, this is a mesmerizing epic of crime and opportunity, race, revenge, and loyalty."

As a self confessed wire fanboy this was enough for me to give it a go. However, It was a hard slog with very little reward for me. Firstly I must mention that this isn't really about the Rodney King L.A riots, this is the back drop to the story of south central cholo gang warfare and revenge. Which itself is still an exciting premise but something just doesn't quite work for me. I felt the characters were for the most part very similar with very little to differentiate between them and at times came across as stereotypes and caricatures.

Unlike the wire, all the pieces did not matter. Sections of the book that at the time appeared to be leading somewhere ended up being mostly redundant filler.

I've not read many books that touch upon this subject matter and this hasn't put me off despite its shortcomings. There are great moments in the book but the wire comparison was a kiss of death for me, perhaps if it weren't for this I wouldn't have had such high expectations and would not have judged it so harshly.

Sheeeeeeeiiiiit.
