A brutal triple murder in a remote Scottish farming community in 1869 leads to the arrest of 17-year-old Roderick Macrae. There is no question that Macrae committed this terrible act. What would lead such a shy and intelligent boy down this bloody path? Presented as a collection of documents, His Bloody Project opens with a series of police statements taken from the villagers, which offer conflicting impressions, throwing Macrae's motive and his sanity into question.

I got this book on a whim, and boy I am glad I did. You shouldn't like it as you know who committed the murders right away and you start off reading his version of events, which are entertaining enough, then comes the reports and investigation followed by the trial. Not to spoil anything but your mind does a few summersaults before the end. I had to check if this was a true historical event, it isn't, but just shows the authors ability to create a piece of work which " feels" like a historical account. Can't praise this book enough.

A predictable but enjoyable little story. It would make a feel good Christmas movie that my wife would enjoy and I would avoid like the plague.

A wonderful story narrated by someone who obviously loves his suject matter. Simon Callow is masterful in bringing the story to life. I sometimes felt there was an ensemble cast. I can't rate this audiobook high enough. Magnificent.
