I was really excited for this book to come out. however it didn't live up to my expectations. it left me wanting more story. the storyline was quite predictable and nick even day that in the book, which I found a little off putting. The twist wasn't enough to pull it back from being predictable and not up to his previous out of the box story lines. sorry but needed more!

I was a little dubious when I saw the length of this book, bit it was such a good listen from start to finish. Kevin has lead and interesting life and his narration on this book was fabulous. Thoroughly enjoyed this and looking forward to watching some of his stand up now.

I really enjoyed this book, I loved the fact it was read by Romesh.
having seen him on a few programmes it felt like the book was well written and delivered as if you were in the room. it was lovely to learn more about his heritage and life before and alongside his stand up. whilst also documenting his stand up journey

loved the narration, not sure about the content

I really struggled with this, I'm a big fan of Jack and indeed the show travels with my father.
I just felt there was no real structure to the story some great snippets but with so many different people being referenced it grew a little tiresome

great story and left me wanting more

Where does Checking Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

its not my favourite nick spalding but i still very much enjoyed it

What did you like best about this story?

it was a great story with lots of unpredictable twists and turns

What does Simon Mattacks bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

his soft tones are a joy with excellent rhythm that made it a very easy listen

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no, i didn't find it a moving book nor a laugh out loud like some of nicks others but the story didn't lend its self to laugh out loud material,

Any additional comments?

the last chapter disappointing, i was left wanting more, i even think there is a sequel to be had for this story. i want to know more.... what happened next, tell me more about hiss cousin and her family. there was much more that could be explored. It did jump a little in places and a smoother transition would have helped the flow a little better but that is i was being super critical. As i say i did enjoy this book overall.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

if they were fans of Irvine welsh then yes im sure this would appeal

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

i would have preferred Lorelei king to have narrated more of the book, i struggled with Penelopes harsh and overly angry voice, which is appropriate for some of the book but feel softer tones are also needed

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Penelopes harsh and overly angry voice, which is appropriate for some of the book but feel softer tones are also needed

If this book were a film would you go see it?

no but i would be intrigued enough to watch it at home if it was on tv

Any additional comments?

a great write, a confusing title and all wrapped up too quickly after investing so much time in the read.

too true!

you just can not predict what will happen in this book!!
poor narrators though, especially when reading the word t * a t frustrating that part if the story was about it's pronunciation and they still didn't get it right, spoiled it slightly for me, Loreli King would work wonders narrating for Nick
