Philosophy begins with questions about the nature of reality and how we should live. These were the concerns of Socrates, who spent his days in the ancient Athenian marketplace asking awkward questions, disconcerting the people he met by showing them how little they genuinely understood. This engaging book introduces the great thinkers in Western philosophy and explores their most compelling ideas about the world and how best to live in it.

Kafka is one of 161 inspired-and inspiring-minds, among them, novelists, poets, playwrights, painters, philosophers, scientists, and mathematicians, who describe how they subtly maneuver the many (self-inflicted) obstacles and (self-imposed) daily rituals to get done the work they love to do, whether by waking early or staying up late; whether by self-medicating with doughnuts or bathing, drinking vast quantities of coffee, or taking long daily walks.

What did you like most about The Happy Vegan?

the light hearted story telling that delivered a message

Any additional comments?

I am new to being vegan, and I listened to this to give me encouragement. It did, the chapter on animal cruelty ruined my day because its so awful to hear... but it made me strong and gave me resolve to stick to what I have started.
I struggle to see meat in the same way now, and there is a sense of relief in my soul now that I don't eat animals... I feel creative and excited about food now... herbs, spices... trying new vegetables. life is good.

A powerful, blazingly honest memoir: the story of an 1100-mile solo hike that broke down a young woman reeling from catastrophe and built her back up again. At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. After her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than an idea: vague, outlandish, and full of promise.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because its dark but not overwhelming, the way it has been written doesn't spend time on gory details or descriptive overloading - it is focused on story - journey - and resolve.

Who was your favorite character and why?

They were all believable and interesting.

What does Georgia Maguire bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Great performance, I listened to it fast (1.35) so the pauses were not to long and the pace felt right.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me think - 'what would I do if I was in her situation?', so your mind spends lots of time trying to problem solve.
