Ok so it wasn’t a bad story.
Enjoying sci fi, this sounded original... it’s not! It’s the same old downfall of American society and prepper hero saves the day... AGAIN! I listened all the way through because I’ve returned the last 3 books that were exactly the same storyline as this! I’m sick of the same old crap! (Yes I pick the book but I like the post apocalyptic genre with a sci-fi element)
Writers/publishers take note:
Society won’t break down in days
Government and officials won’t turn into murderous gangs overnight
If nobody is controlling satellites, they will enter a decaying orbit and burn up.
Preppers are lunatics until proven otherwise
Cattle can’t survive a continuous winter without vegetation
In 20-30 hours of book time, crossing hundreds of city’s and towns and not finding one normal person or group or society that’s not worshiping aliens or Satan, then give up the country has clearly resorted to medicating with meth!
Oh and don’t get me started on the bullet was fired and something miraculous happens to save the hero... every ten minutes! Man these guys are the luckiest sob’s in the world! And not once do they have to change their underpants!
Bit of realism wouldn’t go a miss?
Sorry but this is a slog without reward! I’d honestly rather remove winnets from an aggressive Yorkshire terriers prolapsed anus without oven mits than listen to this or a sequel again!
I hope I’ve helped you make an informed decision without revealing too much.

Starts fast, slows a little in the middle then picks up well! Felt some parts were unnecessary and didn’t add to the character building or story other than a stretched tedious link, but overall it was a good story! I thought I had the mystery sussed early on but was wrong several times... I think it’s one of those titles when a 2nd or 3rd listen will knit it together better.

I’ve only listened to the first book so far, I bought it based on the reviews... it might be a decent story but for me it’s the same old generic American “prepper” and the downfall of American society! Well I’m glad I don’t live there because every post apocalyptic book seems to have the entire social structure and law enforcement collapse within 3 days of losing power! With “gang bangers” or lunatics taking over within a week!!! Couldn’t listen to any more! In the U.K. if we lost power for 3 days we’d be complaining that the weather was aggravating the issue, our fish fingers defrosted and are no good and having to boil water for tea on the hob instead of the kettle! I doubt anyone would rape pillage and murder for some canned fruit! And why as a reader, would I care about the ins and outs of a fart of some gun with stupid numbers and unbelievable technical specifications of weapons that mean nothing to anyone but a gun shop owner? We don’t care just say he had a gun or he had a big gun! Yes you may pick up I’m a bit peeved... spent hours picking a book listened to 15 hours only to find its almost identical to “the day after” and various other generic American hero prepper saves the world story. If you’re after something different, with some originality try peter clines the fold or 14. Dark matter is a good shout too, even wayward pines or extraction at least have some original ideas. Rant over
If you’ve never listened to a post apocalyptic downfall of American society in an incredibly short time with a prepper generic hero who saves the day, before, you might enjoy this as a first! Can’t fault the narrator though

I’m gonna start with the negatives, I understand the concept of the “series” but for the omnibus (or binge listeners) authors notes and a recap irritated me probably more than it should have. For the complete series this should be edited out!
The world fell to sh*t far too soon for me, looters and gangs after two days? Really? Some people sleep two days and wouldn’t have noticed!!! Could have had a lot more build up and felt rushed at the beginning!
The story was good fun though I really enjoyed it and for a long ish book (complete) felt short and went fast so it wasn’t boring at all.
Refreshing concept for the post apocalyptic genre also. Overall worth a credit

Started off great, keeps good pace and doesn’t get boring, good character development (for main cast) but seemed to conclude fast! A theory is suggested and it’s right here’s a fix, done! End! Far too short, ending was rushed and spoiled what could have been a fantastic book. 3 stars is generous in my opinion, but the first 3/4’s of the book was really entertaining so I feel it’s a fair rating. Maybe it was left for a sequel, if so it’s not obvious and still doesn’t account for the exactly guesses theory.

I liked this book more than I expected and picked it because of peoples reviews rather than the synopsis, so thanks fellow reviewers!
The story was great and a real “page turner” and keeps a good pace, it wasn’t too silly with the supernatural element which i liked. The range of voices left you in no doubt who was speaking, although I found it kept going quiet then loud? Not sure if was the narrator speaking quieter or the production? Still didn’t spoil it too much!

This was a great story told well however it felt a little bit rushed and could have developed some characters a lot more. That being said it’s still a good story and well worth a read

This book is quiet similar to hunger games but highly enjoyable already downloaded the 2nd book. It’s fairly long but not at all boring in any part.

I liked the storyline and the scenes with actors along side the narrator but felt it was disturbing (more than needed) and made me turn it off a few times in case someone overheard it and thought “what on earth you listening to” and it’s extremely twisted and overly described in some of the bad areas... that being said the story flowed well as a “who done it” and had lots of clever twists that even a seasoned veteran would likely miss and was a good story too which was good. Think you need a strong stomach for this one but it’s good if you can get passed some of the sicker parts (mainly early on in story)

I think the synopsis paints this story in a adverse light... it has been in my wish list over a year and only got it because it was on the 3 for 2 offer!!! What a fantastic story! One of the best I’ve read/listened to by far, this is sci-fi yes technically, but the majority of the tale covers almost every genre and the sci-fi is integral but low. Expertly narrated (sounded a bit slow and old initially) but wow! I can’t think of anyone under the age of 12 who wouldn’t love this book! This will stimulate every emotion, provoke deep thoughts and boggle the mind of the most hardened physicists’ all to an end that makes sense! Enjoy this, as there’s not that many books like it that I have experienced...
