The first 4/5 's of the book are drawn out and boring. It took ages for anything of interest to happen which is a shame because the last 1/5 is actually quite good and some of the twists unexpected. Unfortunately you have to go through 9 long hours to get to the good bit!

A perfect compliment to the Tattooist of Auschwitz

Really enjoyed this book. If I had one observation though it would be that Cilka was a little too perfect as a character, in those circumstances it felt a little implausible come the end.

I really enjoyed this audio book, at times I was almost shouting at the characters and thought I had solved it several times - how wrong I was.
I have a 13 year old daughter and felt that the book accurately depicted 13 year olds and made me question the events in a way I would not have done before

Really enjoyed this short series, would have liked to have heard more from all of the participants. I almost felt like I was there, part of the family! Thought provoking and very balanced particularly given the position of the interviewer.

What a great book!

This was an unusual choice for me, one on a 2 for 1 deal to make the numbers up. I admit I wasn't sure at first but so glad I stuck with it. A great listen, light hearted and original, an interesting way of dealing with some gritty subjects. Absolutely loved it through the laughter and the tears!! Listen to it and enjoy!

I really am not sure how I feel about this book. It is excellently written and a great translation and you hear Hitler but that's what makes it hard listen to. Jokes about the atrocities performed by the Nazis are uncomfortable to hear and often close to the mark. That said I liked the book and it was funny but still.....

I like Robert Goddard books, I really do and this was no exception, twists and turns and a convoluted plot but I wish he could change his main characters, middle aged men veering towards a failure label. It doesn't detract from the plot but it lends the book a fatalistic feel.
Still, a good story

I have not read any Victoria Hislop for a while and I can't think why! A beautiful and evocative book that lands you vividly back in Greece once again. I confess I am not brilliant on my Greek Greek history and perhaps that helps. It adds a fresh element and means I do not always know where the story is going
