Story
Welcome to the life of a junior doctor: 97-hour weeks, life and death decisions, a constant tsunami of bodily fluids, and the hospital parking meter earns more than you. Scribbled in secret after endless days, sleepless nights and missed weekends, Adam Kay's This is Going to Hurt provides a no-holds-barred account of his time on the NHS front line. Hilarious, horrifying and heartbreaking, this diary is everything you wanted to know - and more than a few things you didn't - about life on and off the hospital ward.

Sobering, hilarious, sad and straight from the hip. A great insight in the life of a ‘junior’ doctor. Great narration from the author too.

Would make a good holiday read a bit far-fetched for some
Reviewed: 14-01-19
I enjoyed the story, and it came as a bit of light release after reading quite an intense book recently.
It is not my usual high brow literature, BUT I was absolutely hooked and couldn’t put it down!
Some of it is quite far-fetched, but that doesn’t really spoil it!
Some of the narration is a bit annoying, but as this is broken up that is manageable too.

Story
This is a story of something like survival. Sal planned it for almost a year before they ran. She nicked an Ordnance Survey map from the school library. She bought a compass, a Bear Grylls knife, waterproofs and a first aid kit from Amazon using credit cards she'd robbed. She read the SAS Survival Handbook and watched loads of YouTube videos. And now Sal knows a lot of stuff. Like how to build a shelter and start a fire. How to estimate distances, snare rabbits and shoot an airgun.

Story
In 1973 Jane Tennison, aged 22, leaves the Metropolitan Police Training Academy to be placed on probationary exercise in Hackney, where criminality thrives. We witness her struggle to cope in a male-dominated, chauvinistic environment, learning fast to deal with shocking situations with no help or sympathy from her superiors. Then comes her involvement in her first murder case. No one witnessed the savage beating of a tragic young girl who, the postmortem reveals, was pregnant when she died.

I gave it four chapters and could not continue, the narrator sounded as if he was telling a children’s story.
The sex scene, was the worst I have ever come across.
Normally I really care what happens in stories, and I really want to read until the end but in this case I just gave up- I really couldn’t care less!

I really wanted To like this....

To be succinct I found the story waffly in parts (The middle just kept on going) and also I was really hoping for a European/ Scandi sounding accent, rather than Yorkshire man!
Every time I heard rainier’s voice I thought of moomin papa!
As much as I really wanted to like this, it just wasn’t top-quality enough.
