You know when you find yourself approaching 30 and your dreams are broken? You've got a temping career going nowhere and a student debt that's mounting, and you've just had to move back into your mum's house. Then, to top it all off, you get absolutely annihilated with heartbreak because of an ex who is just 'not ready' but then manages to be ready, a week later, with someone else. And it is here, at your lowest point, that one of your best friends decides to remind you that you are the same age as Beyoncé. FML.

I purchased this audio book on a whim., having never heard of the author or her show. Was expecting something else, maybe an insight into the mind of today's teenagers?

Instead heard an inspirational story of one woman's battle to succeed. Very honest and at times hilarious!! I laughed out loud!!

Absolutely loved her message to women to believe in and love themselves.

In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Not as described, more like an auto biography of a normal person, with very occasional passing reference to the actual topic!!

skip straight to the last chapter when she finally sums it all up, for what it's worth.

Also I found the narrators voice really irritating.

Did not like this at all - complete waste of money!! So maybe I did learn a lesson.... 🤔 Don't believe publishers hype!!! IT was certainly not true in this case!! Awful book!!!!

After nearly two decades in Britain, Bill Bryson, the acclaimed author of such best sellers as The Mother Tongue and Made in America, decided it was time to move back to the United States for a while. This was partly to let his wife and kids experience life in Bryson's homeland, and partly because he had read that 3.7 million Americans believed that they had been abducted by aliens at one time or another. It was thus clear to him that his people needed him.

Over half of the women in America are on a diet, and most of us feel like we have spent our entire adult life struggling to keep our weight down. The shocking discovery you are about to make is this is not our fault. The tasteless diet versions of our favorite foods, that we have been encouraged to eat, doesn't help us lose weight; it does the exact opposite.

Not a new concept, but one which is put well by the author, speaking from his personal experience.

It was interesting and I was fascinated to hear of the lengths the author went to with 1000s of blood tests etc.

However, This might be one which you are better buying as physical book, rather than the audio book.

There is no supporting info PDF provided with the audio book, surprising, as these are often provided with other similar audio books. The author lists some "green " foods, but this is just insufficient.

The author does refer to support on his website, but this only seems available if you pay to join. He also invites readers to email, which I have done, but not received a response, which I found disappointing.

Does it work? I cannot say as there is just not enough information supplied to actually follow the diet - other than avoid wheat and sugar - hardly news!!

When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classifieds section of a London newspaper, she is determined to find out why it's there. There's no explanation, no website - just a grainy image and a phone number. She takes it home to her family, who are convinced it's just someone who looks like Zoe. But the next day the advert shows a photo of a different woman, and another the day after that.Is it a mistake? A coincidence? Or is someone keeping track of every move they make?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

More actual information / advice.

What could Marta Tuchowska have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make it live up to its title for one! Does not do any of that.

What didn’t you like about Wendell Wadsworth’s performance?

Having a man narrate a book written by (and presumably about) women is ridiculous IMO. Also he had an awful voice - robotic.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None whatsoever

Any additional comments?

Again, I wish Audible could stipulate somewhere in the description if it is an American book because websites/shops mentioned etc are not applicable to UK readers.

From Comic Strip to Comic Relief, from Bolly-swilling Edina in Ab Fab to her takes on Madonna or Mamma Mia, her characters are household names. But it's Jennifer herself who has a place in all our hearts. This is her funny, moving, and frankly bonkers memoir, filled with laughter, friends, and occasional heartache - but never misery.
