Slightly confusing format. Some sections need an X certificate. Takes its time over ending and has an epilogue after the credits .Author trying to tie up loose ends. Despite the harrowing descriptions I had to see where it went .I won't be taking a cruise in the near future! Illustrious cast list who did well to cope with the deeply troubled characters & develop the plot which meandered through a maze of disturbing possibilities. Main theme is child abuse so not for the easily sickened.

Good days read.

Beware of the gory descriptions in the first chapter unexpected. Later descriptions are prewarned .
clever use of history to drive a clever & informative story which could have been true.
Further info on the slave trade is available from the Museum on the Albert docks in Liverpool .
once or twice modern idiom pops into the narrative but does not spoil the narrative.
I am going to check out further Detective Lavender stories.
Well narrated.

very deep exploration of mental health issues from opposite ,or maybe not, points of view.
narrators voice was appropriate to the detective and clearly expressed.
Not for the faint hearted. Vivid descriptions of death and sex. Part of the plot.
Stays with you after listening. I may look for a 2nd Detective Daniel book!

I should have realised that the fact this was labelled part 1 would mean that even after so many Chapters there would be no satisfactory resolution and therefore a need to purchase the next part.
The author managed to create such a feeling of paranoia in the reader that everyone was a suspect!
The narrator had the right tone and speed of delivery much better than many of those I have listened to on Audible previously. I have difficulty with Lorelei King if that helps with my perspective.
Not sure about the numerous chapter divisions but as the story kept jumping about they were necessary.
Left annoyed by some very predictable & therefore avoidable incidents but I suppose that was the author's way of showing the fallibility of the characters. It was like when watching a movie the audience knows what the inevitable outcome of the chain of circumstances will be so they keep hoping that there will be someone with common sense who will save the day- almost to the point of shouting at the screen or in this case mentally shouting "idiot" at some of the characters!
Not sure whether I enjoyed it but certainly some interesting concepts as well as loose ends for the next part..
If you have nothing better to do on a wet Friday then lounge & listen.
Now I need to decide whether to use a credit on Part 2.

the narrator failed to bring the story to life but as the so called plot was confusing & convoluted that was not entirely his fault. Good Audible to sleep through .

Bill Nye is always guaranteed to deliver an impeccable performance. The script provides moments of comic genius as expected from the Charles Paris series.Excellent supporting cast including Lesley Philips.
If you like black comedy and a good murder mystery this is for you. Going to listen to another Charles Paris mystery to cheer up a very grey Sept.Friday. Hopefully there will be more produced in future.

Had to keep listening for the whole of Sat p.m. Rutger Hauer Android voice clever choice. " wonder if I will dream". Atmospheric & leaves mental pictures of the events. Essential graphic violence & swearing so don't listen on loudspeakers in delicate company! Fits cleverly between the two main storylines.

narrator ruined this but also when I first used my credits you kept sending same again as so many books and parts that system was mixing them up. if I could have had my credits back I would have but it was so long ago! don't know why these two books of the series have suddenly appeared in my library for last months choices.
very strange so thought I would write it in review. Not watched TV series either after killed the dog!

struggling finding right order for parts

Despite watching some of the tv series to get an idea of the plot order am still finding that the downloads do not match the information on the website & see from your other reviews that I am not alone with this difficulty.
I did telephone but found it complicated to explain this , the operator, although apparently helpful, failed to recognise this as a fault , implying that I was the only one with a problem.
If I am still unable to find the right order how could I return any faulty/repeated (but paid for individually) downloads?
I was pleased to see that one of the main characters in the tv series has just been awarded a Golden Globe-he was excellent.Well done Peter(the Dwarf brother)
I shall persevere as the characters are well written and I want to find out where the story plot is going next.
