Funny, inspiring, honest - the perfect listen for anyone with well-worn trainers by the door (or who's thinking of buying a pair...). Vassos Alexander shares the highs and lows of falling in love with running, from his first paltry efforts to reach the end of his street to completing ultra-marathons and triathlons in the same weekend. This is a celebration of running - and what lots of us think about when we run. Part escape, part self-discovery, part therapy, part weight loss.

I bought this book because I love listening to Vassos on the radio. I didn't expect it to be as brilliant as I found it. Maybe it's because I have just started running again after a few years break, but I can relate to the pain, exhilaration and sheer joy of putting one foot in front of the other, then repeat, that comes with this book. Listening to all the other stories from runners and people who run, shows the journey really is worth taking.

Puffin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of The Racehorse Who Wouldn't Gallop, written and read by Clare Balding. Charlie Bass is a horse-mad nine-year-old who dreams of owning her own pony. So when her eccentric parents announce that they are going to buy a racehorse, Charlie is thrilled. The horse they buy, Noble Warrior, looks the part: strong, fit and healthy. There's just one problem - he won't gallop.

I bought this book after hearing Claire talk about it on the radio, a children's book I thought but could be OK. Well, what a surprise! It was wonderful, the story is brilliant making me (a grown woman of rather mature years) laugh and cry in equal measure. Claire is fabulous as the narrator and her joy in her writing as well as her knowledge shines through. If you want a good time read, whether you love horses, dogs , cows or not, this is most definitely one to listen too.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved this book, and would recommend to anyone who loves a great magical story paired with a fabulous female lead. Towards the end I couldn't leave it, and listened at every opportunity. The end didn't disappoint and will definitely be putting the next 2 books in my library.

What other book might you compare Schooled in Magic to, and why?

I think this is a mix of all the best stories I have read, Harry Potter, Lord of the rings, shannara, amongst others.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Tavia brought the characters to life, her voice changes were brilliant.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not a particular moment but I did like the gradual development of Emily's character and strength.

After a number of fantasy sci fly novels this was a fabulous change. I love the characters - strangely familiar after a childhood in Derbyshire (not Yorkshire but pretty close). The family bond is fabulous. I would recommend this to any one who enjoys a good yarn.
