I couldn’t get past the first chapter - the narrator is dreadful!
A shame because I normally rate Mel Sherratt‘ work.

I would have liked to have listened to this audiobook but the narrator was so terrible that I had to switch off and return after only half a chapter. I’ve never found a narrator so irritating! Shame because I thought the story might have had some promise.

On a stifling summer's day, 11-year-old Jack and his two sisters sit in their broken-down car, waiting for their mother to come back and rescue them. 'Jack's in charge,' she said. 'I won't be long.' But she never comes back. Three years later, mum-to-be Catherine wakes to find a knife beside her bed, and a note that says: 'I could have killed you'. Meanwhile Jack is still in charge - of his sisters, of supporting them all, of making sure nobody knows they're alone in the house, and - quite suddenly - of finding out the truth about what happened to his mother. But the truth can be a dangerous thing....

The narrator was appalling. Any female characters sounded pathetic, somewhat stupid and simpering. I couldn’t focus on the storyline at all. Such a shame.

Not a bad story but the narrator was absolutely terrible. Mispronouncing words and narrating with an extremely irritating tone. I wouldn’t listen to anything with her narrating again!
