to a diverting story. Mrs Blobsy, the vicar's wife is endearing and Alf her husband remarkably like my vicar!

I know from Goodreads this is amongst the best of GH NOVELS and yet I am unable to engage in the narration. Have tried 3 times so far but can't focus because I am bothered by a male voice.. As written in another review I do believe women do a great job reading male characters but men seem to have a hard time reading or performing female parts. I shall force myself to listen to it on a long journey driving, but so far I found it dull because of the narrator.
Narrators make audiobooks great delights or terrible bores. In the case of GH BOOKS, I believe men should be opted out, especially as recently on Audible an octagerian American male has offered recordings of Georgette Heyer, Dickens, etc. that literally leave us dumfounded for their poor quality as he butchers all the works, stammering and with music in the backgrgound... Readers of Mrs Georgette Heyer are in general females, she herself was and I do believe our sex makes a better rendition of her entertaining work.
Thank you Audible for in general a great quality. Please give GH books to Georgina Sutton to read! Thanks.

Mrs Georgina SUTTON is for me THE BEST PERFORMER of a Georgette Heyer's novel. Alas she did not narrate any other which is a pity. She made a grand job performing the Brandon siblings and parents and I laughed and laughed at her imitations of Beverley Brandon's stuttering and the incredible voice of his brother Cedric. Main characters are very good too as are Cokney and peasant accents.
All in all I consider that women do indeed a better job at interpreting all voices,. They bring credibility to men's voices when I haven't been able to engage in any GH novel read by a man. Men,I am afraid are not, at least for that author able to reproduce correctly female voices.
It brings to my mind that in making one's choice of audiobooks, one has to listen to the narrator and select him rather than the work itself as there are some disasters who make listening to a book a drudgery.
I have already ordered some classics read by Mrs Georgina SUTTON wishing she had read more, and in particular had been chosen to write more Georgette Heyer.

Great story rendered to perfection by narrator. Found other readers of GH dull afterwards and was surprised that there are no other recordings of GH books by Sarah Woodward. I actually listened to it twice in a row! Congratulations Mrs Woodward, I hope I shall listen to you in other audiobooks soon and thank you for your performance.
Somehow hadn't posted this. Well Mrs WOODWARD lost Place Nr 1 in my heart for reading GH novels to Mrs Georgina SUTTON, but both remain great narrators.
This story has to be the best of GH.

True this is not great literature but it's a distraction. Furthermore most MC Beaton writing under Marion Chesney actu ally have for me a therapeutic effect. I suffer from depression and insomnia and they are soothing readings, particularly in the sleepless night.

I OWN ALL MC BEATON'S BOOKS AND ALL PUBLISHED AUDIOBOOKS PF HER ROMANCES.

A READER OR PERFORMER MAKES THE DIFFERENCE. I HAVE READ THIS BOOK SOME YEARS AGO AND I GAVE UP LISTENING ON THE AUDIOBOOK.

READING IS TOO FAST. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH DIFFERENCE OF TONES BETWEEN CHARACTERS'S VOICES AND READER IS INCAPABLE TO IMMITATE AN AMERICAN ACCENT OR A MAN'S.

WILL BE THE FIRST TIMR I ASK FOR A REFUND.
