A jaw-dropping account of life as a prison officer in one of the country's most notorious jails. Neil ‘Sam’ Samworth spent 11 years working as a prison officer in HMP Manchester, aka Strangeways. A tough Yorkshireman with a soft heart, Sam had to deal with it all - gangsters and gangbangers, terrorists and psychopaths, addicts and the mentally ill. Men who should not be locked up and men who should never be let out. Strangeways is a shocking and at times darkly funny account of life in a high-security prison.

Oh my, this man & his stories delve deep into your sub conscious. They are, without doubt, some of the most hideous & heart warming (yes, both at the same time) stories you will ever hear. The shame of our penal system & the strong willed, strong minded, big hearted people who work hard to make the best of it. Neil has some amazing stories & I wish him the very best of luck with his return to health.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Lale and Gita Sokolov, two Slovakian Jews who survived Auschwitz and eventually made their home in Australia. In that terrible place, Lale was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - literally scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust.

What a-fabulous love story surrounded by such awful events. I believe that every school in Europe should visit this place & study these books to prevent the reoccurrence of hatred...
