I don't know what happened, it started kind of slow but then I got sucked in and the night was gone. Great characters, gets a bit overly vicious with the bad guys, I thought at one or two points, but survival is survival! The narrator is great once he gets into it, a little slow at first, but just hang in there as it is very much worth it! I got feeling of joy at the wonder of how truly generous of spirit people can be to one another! I have experienced it in real life and it was a lovely reminder, of course there were a few of those who are totally lacking in that spirit! All in all it felt like I was reading a true story instead of fiction! Ok so on to book 2, I couldn't find book 3 though, but hopefully it is somewhere in audible!

It began on New Year's Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world's population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max.

the time flew by so quickly. it's a really good story and the reader enhanced my experience. I had quite a few sleepless nights after I just submerged myself into the story. it has horror, sadness, joy and love in it. some bits are really scary and I found them so disturbing that I would take a break for a day then go back to it. I really enjoyed the characters they were very true to human nature,. there were people who wanted to help each other and people filled with bitterness and hatred and people who were just really cruel for the sake of it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! it's a book I would read again and again. I have done that with some of Steven kings books and all of John Connelly's and some of Christopher brookmyers books. I think there might be more books to follow just by the way the story ended. I really hope there are more!

I started reading this and found that the repetitiveness of Michael's childhood got really tedious. So I considered returning it to audible for something by an author that I had read before. I decided to read 1 more chapter before I quit then next thing I know I finished it. And it was all too soon. All 56 chapters lol. The book is excellent I was totally stunned when I discovered why the poor main character was having such an awful time of it. But I wont spoil it for you all I will say is hang in there it is well worth the effort! Jeff Harding is my favourite narrator. I have listened and enjoyed his voice in lee child books, john connolly books and some by dean koontz, and many more. He really nails it with his character voices.
