Not her best but certainly not the worst. About average Danielle Steel. 35 years ago I read every book she brought out with anticipation until she was bringing out so many they became much of a sameness. Occasionally you would get an exceptional read. This book wasn't an exceptional read but enjoyable and easy flowing. She has such talent when given time. I wish she would write one book a year rather than three which would allow her to excel.

Interesting insight into the plight of immigrants.

The Syrian War has caused horrific casualties as all wars do. This book gives an insight into how people suffer when displaced from their own country. The story is about a Muslim family and their journey to England. As a person who is concerned about the affect Islam may have on our beautiful Island, I had a lot of empathy with the characters as I do with immigrants. However there is a character who is raped and her husband does nothing in retaliation. A reader who is unfamiliar with Sharia Law would just think the husband was a weak man. The author has opted to leave any opinions to the reader rather than give the reasons why the husband behaves that way. If a Muslim woman is raped, Sharia Law states it is her fault and unless she can provide 4 witnesses to the event she will be stoned to death. The husband therefore cannot retaliate or he will be giving his wife a death sentence. I think we need educating to laws of being Muslim and I felt disappointed at the end of the story because the author didn't show how brave and loving the husband was to abstain from revenge. Otherwise a good book.

An interesting, unusual novel with great narrator.

Not in the same league as the DCI Tom and Becky series. This was too longwinded and in places forced myself to stick with it. Was it worth it? Not really.

This story is unbelievable and doesn't ring true. Women are drugged and imprisoned voluntary rather than face jail. The jail they are in is far worse than HMP. Struggled to read it to the end but did so as up until now a huge Rachel Abbott fan. I cannot in all honesty recommend this as a good read.

A Riviting book from beginning to end.
