A good narrator, each character was easily identified.
The story was ok (ish) didn’t go into to much background history so was an easy listen if you like that sort of thing.
But OMG the author had the characters laughing at every situation. I think it was to try to give them a depth but it didn’t work, it just got sooooo annoying . Almost every incident/ conversation ended with “ he burst out laughing” or she laughed. I almost returned the book but decided I would see it through to the end as the story was mildly gripping.
Ignore the plot holes, ignore the incessant laughing, ignore the main characters slightly whiney voice and you may enjoy it, it will at least fill a few hours. Although I probably wouldn’t have bought book 2 if it hadn’t been a box set.
Also try not to root for the villain......

Not a bad read/listen. Nothing spectacular just a simple story with loads of shooting and good guys. The standard weasel thrown in for good measure. Oh and a Brit........is this how yanks see us?

The narration was terrible......it was painfully slow and I almost abandoned the book. I switched the speed to 1.25 and that maid it bearable although the switch between storylines could be easily missed.

The narration made it a good book rather than a great book. Worth a listen, just try turning up the speed.

A little simplistic

It’s not bad enough to return but isn’t really an adult read/listen. I have given up half way through book 2 mainly because there is no depth to the plot or characters. There is plenty of hilarity apparently in a post EMP Britain.........and we are suppose to believe the population of Birmingham is reduced to a few hundred survivors in just 9 weeks.
It then gets more and more ludicrous.

OMG has this bloke just learned to read?

Where does A Place Outside the Wild rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Mid table.

Who was your favorite character and why?

No one grabbed me TBH

How could the performance have been better?

Someone else reading it. The narrator was so slow I turned the speed up to 1.5 which made it a whole lot better.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Hmmm not really

Any additional comments?

The narrator has put me off buying any more books narrated by him. Luckily speeding it up worked for this book I'm not sure it would for others,

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

People into gay porn

What could Keegan Kennedy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Remove the descriptions of sex.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed, frustrated.

Any additional comments?

While the narrator did a sterling job, the storyline was poor. The caracters seemed more interested in having sex than the impending end of the world. While that could have been tolerated the long rambling sex scenes just didn't fit into this type of story. I has no interest in how large a blokes penis was or how big a women's brests were while they were lay on a bed breathing their last. The main caracters seems to think back to the last time they had sex with the unfortunate dying before their eyes. I didn't finish the book as it was just to sex based for this type of book. If you stick around I'm sure the remaining population of the earth will grease themselves up and indulge in some Romano Greek wrestling.

No idea what this book was about!

What disappointed you about The Three?

I listened to all of it.

What could Sarah Lotz have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not written it.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Three?

Start at page one and cut the whole book.

Any additional comments?

I kept listening hoping something would happen........but it didn't. It was billed as "The world will never be the same again". Hinting that a malevolent force was behind the crashes.......if there was it never made an appearance.
Don't bother with this book.

What would have made The Legacy of Heorot better?

What would make the story better? Probably not reading it. I'm not accepting that the people who were selected for this mission were the brightest and most able of the half billion that applied. It looks like the Government of Earth loaded the space ship with those they most wanted to get rid of. When the ' monster' attacks the 'Scientists' basically go berserk and burn down their encampment.
I had to stop listening at that point as it was to ludicrous to be even remotely believable.

Possibly it would get better but I doubt it. Hurry up monster and kill all the humans you would be doing the galaxy a favour.

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

I have listened to a number of books by Nivon and with the exception of Footfall I was disappointed don't think I will bother in the future

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tom Weiner?

To be fair the narrator was quite good.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointed.

Any additional comments?

Don't bother

Where does Worldwar: Striking the Balance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am grouping the World War series together and as a series they are one of my favourite books.

What did you like best about this story?

The story rolls along at a steady pace, I love the way the Race can't get a grip on us humans, and in my opinion is the best guess on how aliens would see us if they ever landed here.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I was a little disappointed with the narration, the Todd McLaren does an appalling British accent and I honestly thought that one of the characters was an Australian instead of a Londoner. Also the pronunciation of some words left a lot to be desired didn't anyone proof listen this before it was released.
If you can ignore the rubbish accents and mispronunciation of some words then you will enjoy this series of books.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Some parts of this book made me smile mainly the parts where the Race failed to grasp us ' Big Uglies'.
