The drought - or the Tap-Out, as everyone calls it - has been going on for a while now. Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers. Until the taps run dry. Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life - and the life of her brother - is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.

This is a fantastic book and an incredibly thought provoking study of trust and the way it is developing in the modern digital world. How we build trust with people we never see and how we rely on the opinions of others to make choices of our own. In fact if you decide to get this book as a result of my review then you may find this book a fascinating commentary on your behaviour!

As always this is beautifully narrated by Cristin Milioti with fab voice distinction adding significantly to the story line. This woman is an amazing artist. When you combine this with the ever skilful writing in this series it is another winner. No spoilers here but if you have read or listened to the previous books in this series you don't need me to tell you to carry on to this one. If this is the first Virals book you have considered I recommend you treat yourself and start at the beginning - I don't think you will be disappointed

I haven't read the Tempe series in order and went back to this one. Really not impressed by the narration by comparison to later ones. characterisation voices were poor and on a number of occasions were confusing. BUT the storyline was excellent and one of the best. Great scene setting for many of the people in Tempe 's life and not to be missed. so worth persevering even if,like me, you don't get on with the narrator.
