I am a big Robin Hobb fan and struggle to criticise her, but this just seemed so laboured. I am going to get the last in the trilogy . . . but it’s not with my usual enthusiasm. Here’s hoping!

I listened to this on audible - totally engaging Robin Hobb as usual. Wasn’t impressed with the narrators though.

This is so well written . . . but the story is just so dull and completely forgettable.

What a find!!! Beautifully written and wonderfully narrated. All the characters leap out from the pages. Aristotle and Dante I love you two. You will be companions forever. It is that kind of book. Put everything aside and read/listen to it.

I really enjoyed One Day and, seeing the ‘Nominated for the Man Booker prize’ tag line, needed little persuasion. This is NOT going to win the prize (or any other prizes for that matter).
I found it irritating . . . and just really dull . . . and very contrived . . . and not at all amusing or endearing.
My question to David Nicholls would be “Is this the sort of book you’d want to read?” Very uninspiring.

Superbly written and beautifully narrated. The author has crafted this so lovingly it really is a work of art. I knew very little about Truman Capote and the people who influenced him and vice versa.
It’s hard to criticise such an accomplishment . . . so I’m not going to. This is so cleverly written, with so much depth and loving detail. Read it.

Overall this is an exceptionally good book. There are times I felt the editing could have been a little ‘tighter’, but that didn’t get in the way of an intriguing story from an excellent storyteller.
The detail is perfect; the sense of place . . . well, touchable. I travelled with Theo and endured his struggles, his desperate uncertainties, his anxieties.
It really is one of those stories that will be with me for a long time. I loved it. So many characters to carry around with me.

This was recommended to me by a good friend. I've had to reassess our friendship. It is awful. It is riddled with cliches. The writing is so amateurish it made me laugh at times. As a former teacher it reminded me of 13 year-old attempts at writing. In fact, that's not fair on my 13 year old pupils, many of whom did a better job.
I have read some of the other reviews and see that I am in a minority. There are so many good books out there and it baffles me that this has any decent reviews. The storyline was dull; the 'journey of discovery' trite; the characters uninteresting, and the writing so flawed it was irritating. The only reason I finished it was to report back to my ex friend. I am going to insist on my money back.

This is the first book I've read (had read to) by Nora Ephron and I will definitely go through her list. This is magnificent. Beautifully written. So skilfully crafted. And then along comes Meryl Streep and reads it to you! Her delivery, as you would expect, is perfect. You can just tell Meryl is loving the telling of the story. This really is a wonderful experience. Thank you Nora. Thank you Meryl.

Not quite up to all the rave reviews in my opinion, but it is entertaining. I chuckled two or three times - definitely not the laugh out loud book many reviewers suggest it is. Still, it was fun.
