Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I have seen the TV show and wanted to try the book. It is even better than the TV show and that is really saying something.

What other book might you compare A Game of Thrones (Part One) to, and why?

I haven't read much epic fantasy. The only thing I could compare it to is Lord of the rings.

Have you listened to any of Roy Dotrice’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No, but I enjoyed this narration the range of voices were fantastic and I find his voice very easy to listen to. The only thing that bothered me was the accent used for Tyrion Lannister - I think it was welsh, but to me the accent didn't fit the character (but that is probably because I associate the character with the actor in the TV show)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but it is very long so I think it would be impossible!

Any additional comments?

Fantastic. Highly recommended. The only issue I had was the fact I have to buy 2 audiobooks for one book. i.e the audiobook is split into two purchases however the book is just one. I think it should have been in one audiobook, matching the actual book.

Winner of the British Book Awards, TV & Film Book of the Year, 2005.

Michael Palin reads his own account of an epic journey across the Himalaya. The greatest mountain range on earth, it includes the Khyber Pass and the Silk Road, the mighty peaks of Everest and K2, and the gorges of the Yangtze. He passed through a fascinatingly mixed bag of countries: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, and secretive mountain kingdoms like Nepal, as well as one of the most volatile regions in the world, Kashmir.

Most people have probably seen Michael Palin's travel shows on TV but if you haven't tried one of the accompanying audiobooks yet, you really should. I think they are brilliant. And Himalaya is definitely one of the best. It is narrated by Michael Palin too, which makes it even better.

His descriptions of the people he meets along the way are great and he brilliantly describes the arduous climb when he was feeling ill. It's just fantastic, you can almost imagine being there.

Three years after the epic adventure described in Around the World in 80 Days, Michael Palin was off again. Not circumnavigating the globe, but journeying from one end to the other: the North Pole to the South Pole. Following the 30 degree east line of longitude and using aircraft only as a last resort, Palin and his team endured extremes of heat and cold as they crossed 17 countries on trains, trucks, ships, rafts, ski-doos, buses, barges, bicycles, and balloons.

This book is my favourite from the Michael Palin Travel books - although I love them all. Fantastic descriptions of the locations he and the BBC visited, colourful description of scenery architecture and the descriptions of the people he meets during his travels just make them come alive in my imagination.

Again I wish they weren't abridged as I was love to have the full length versions. That said, the book and the narration is absolutely first class and if you haven't listened to Michael Palin's books yet, you are in for a treat!

Michael Palin can do no wrong in my opinion. Fabulous book and fabulous narration. Really enjoyed it. I just wish audible or the publishing company could make the audiobooks available in the unabridged versions. I feel like I am missing out with the abridged versions. I realise this would make the audiobooks more expensive, but in my opinion it would be worth it.

Very entertaining and great service from Audible once again. Easy to download and purchase. Fantastic.

Well I have to say it didn't work for me! A lot of what was said did make sense, and really yo-yo dieting for years on end can't be good for you. But I did feel like it was really a short 30 min speech to get you hooked and encourage me to visit her website and buy one of her programs. As it was free though I can't really complain about that. Interesting enough, but it didn't convince me.

Enjoyed this one and I did like the narrator too once I was a little way into the book and had got used to the voice. It seemed to suit the story well. I had heard lots of things about this book and I was worried I might be disappointed, but I really enjoyed it. It is very different to the types of books I normally read/listen too but I would recommend it.

Her career in homicide has taken her into the darkest depths of New York City’s underground - and sometimes Lieutenant Eve Dallas feels more comfortable in those kinds of places than in the high-rise, high-society world of her billionaire husband, Roarke. But while she’s no party girl, she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating the debut of The Icove Agenda. This time it’s Eve, not Roarke, who’s a guest of honor, since the film is based on one of her famous cases. Her partner, Peabody, is practically giddy....

I love Nora Roberts and I think her in death series is brilliant. This instalment in the long running series doesn't disappoint. The story is fast-past and the language colourful as Nora Roberts, writing as JD Robb, takes you into the future with Eve and Roarke.

The only thing that let it down in my opinion was the narration, which is why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5. I have to stress that this is just my personal taste. I find certain US accents a little grating and I didn't enjoy this one. I think I will read the next instalment rather than get it as an audiobook.
