Space travel just isn't what it used to be. With the invention of Quantum Teleportation, space heroes aren't needed anymore. When one particularly unlucky ex-adventurer masquerades as famous pilot and hate figure Jacques McKeown, he's sucked into an ever-deepening corporate and political intrigue. Between space pirates, adorable deadly creatures, and a missing fortune in royalties, saving the universe was never this difficult!

It took me a while to get into the writing and narration style, but as the plot builds and twists in many directions and McKeown gets deeper into trouble, it grew into a really fun romp of a book. It is also worth noting that while many author narrations are difficult to listen to (IMHO), Yahtzee Crowshaw gets to grips with it and reads like a pro.

Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct. But political squabbles have a bad habit of dying hard, and the Brazilian probes are still trying to take out the competition. And the Bobs have picked a fight with an older, more powerful species with a large appetite and a short temper.

I have loved the Bobiverse books, and this is another great addition. The originality of the first is gone, and you are left with a good but ultimately short story.
Ray Porter does another great job of bringing the characters to life.

Any additional comments?

The stories are good romps based on a well trodden premise. As three books in an omnibus it was well worth my Audible credit. But if this was to cost three credits it would not be such good value. Sadly, due to this I have not moved on to book 4 and instead bought 47 hours worth of Stephen Kings "The Stand" for a single credit.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

From the opening line this is a book full of emotion. For me the first two acts are the strongest and act three could have been the start of another book, but the whole is a sweeping epic that will just keep going.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Found this book after listening to The Martian read by RC Bray. He is clear and consistent with the voices and has a good sense of timing
