Eric - or King Halar, or Vlad, or any number of aliases - doesn't want to be bothered. It's hard to pin down what he does want, if anything. He lives a quiet life, almost a solitary one, mourning in his own way for the loss of someone dear. His quiet solitude can't go on forever. Despite the empty places inside him, events and creatures move through the worlds and across the void between, forcing him into action, into fighting, into confronting things perhaps better left alone...even forcing him into being a King.

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a "witchery", a magical skill that sets them apart from others. In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble - as two desperate young women know all too well. Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It's a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially among the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

I really enjoyed the mortal instruments series and the clockwork Angel series. and this book was, well, ok. It seemed very 2 dimensional. It's a forbidden love story in main. everything else took second place. The other series there was a main story which the romance weaved around. this book was the reverse and it lost some thing for that. still a good book. But in my opinion not her best work. worth a listen on a rainy afternoon though.

Ever since Callie - the Vatican's rookie monster hunter - killed a demon a few weeks ago, Kansas City's been eerily quiet. But she soon learns it's just the calm before the storm. Because werewolves begin abducting young women in Kansas City, and a new church opens its doors, pronouncing death to all idols, including these "make-believe" monsters and wizards. But when one of their congregation is disemboweled by a monster on the steps of the church with the phrase God is dead painted in blood, someone in the church decides to take a lesson from the Salem Witch Trials.... And the police seem to be helping.

Two old dudes want to kill me. Oh, and one of them is my ancestor.... And after centuries of practice, they’re pretty good at the whole murder thing. But at least they want to kill each other just as badly. Now, I’ve taken down a Greek goddess, worn a Horseman’s mask, and I ride a homicidal unicorn who hates rainbows with a passion. Some might say sending two senior citizens to a permanent retirement home should be a breeze. It ain’t. Because that’s not my biggest concern. One of my friends is in danger, or possibly dying, and I need to get her back before her fiancé kills me.

Nate Temple's all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis.
