Prospero burns...slowly, painfully slowly at times!
I still found this an endearing journey into wolf lore, fluff and gore.
Probably a series favourite now I’ve made it through the fight.

I feel a strong urge to swing an axe.

I'm always a little slow to fall in step with these audio dramas, I suppose my lazy brain has to work a little harder painting the picture for me.
There's a payoff all the same, sometimes I find that result even more evocative than the audiobooks I best remember.

It had a certain driving pace that left the story feeling a little too familiar (the wider world has to wait it's turn), we still take a plunge.

Sometimes a tease, generally; great craic!

I remember being left a little wanting by the first Dark Angels entry, now I’m pleasantly surprised by the evolution of their tale.

We get boots on the ground for near enough all that old guard, the greater conflict rolls on and the mysteries roll out.

I'm probably being a little generous with my stars, there’s still some convolution to wade through but the flavour holds true.

I’m a big fan of the narrator but I found this one suffered for a few sound issues at first.
That said, everything and everyone seem to settle in, the Mars saga was something a little different, super sized, something old, something new 😂

I found myself drifting in and out with this installment, never quite connecting. With subterfuge and psychics in the foreground that might have been the idea but hay ho.

All that said, there was a late rally and some interesting new themes stirred in.

Great introduction but maybe not the best book

I was just a little disappointed to find the Stormcast et al a bit flat after coming from Plaguegarden - some broader world building was nice to take in but I felt it lacked the depth of the titles I have just spun through, and I accept that was going backwards!

Whilst giving it his all, the narrator was not the easiest listening of an evening, which is no criticism. It just didn't combine for me.

Gortek featured in one of the first Warhammer titles I ever read in print, that was decades ago - I didn't quite realize I had bought into an audio drama with this one, it made for an epic reunion with a character that quickly came back into focus!
A really fun jaunt.
