Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever. And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe. One terrible morning, Jude and her sisters see their parents murdered in front of them. The terrifying assassin abducts all three girls to the world of Faerie, where Jude is installed in the royal court but mocked and tormented by the Faerie royalty for being mortal.

I love Nalini Singh books and buy them as soon as they are published. This book therefore came as a shock. Nalini books are usually full of a very well thought out plot with many problems to solve. For me this book was one long listen about the development of attraction between Bowen and ( I can’t even remember her name). The story was a very small side line.
Sorry but not up tonNalini’s usual great standard.

The first book in this series was excellent and as soon as I finished it I bought this one, number two.
It’s all a bit too everything..... to wordy instead of getting on with the story. Too too far fetched, if you can say that about a fantasy.!
Not enough of the story is around the human mage and her magic, the spirit cat or her battles.
I will listen to the end however just to see if I can prove myself wrong in my criticism.
I won’t be getting any of the other books in the series.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It's a good book as background noise as it's lacking in much story.

What will your next listen be?

My next listen is a book by Nalini Singh. Similar in that it's fantasy with a good dose of sexual interludes but at least there will be a plot to consentrate on!

Did Bebe Kaye do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Lots of different voices but a slightly slow narration.

Could you see Runaway Vampire being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Heavens NO.

This story has hints of problems current in society today and demonstrates an extreme end game to societal problems. The book is almost an oxymoron in that it is thought provoking on one hand, with society lamely going along with the changes. On the other hand the solution was accepted also with no real discussion of resistance.
The end of the book, with the academic discussion taking place further in the future was, in my opinion, a very strange end.

Not really time well spent. The story jumps between different locations and times that was very difficult to keep track of.

Stick to one time and location!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrator was ok, although some of his voices added to the overall confusion.

Certainly would listen to another book narrated by Imogen Church. Lovely voice with great definition between characters.
Might buy the next in the series just to find out what happens as left with only part of a story completed. The main goodies disappear into a portal and the baddies are all together.

Would you recommend The Relic Guild to your friends? Why or why not?

Probably would not recommend unless the other person likes books that go back and forward forty years in time with sometimes little indication.

What about Imogen Church’s performance did you like?

Lovely animation to her voice.

Would you try another book written by Jessie Lane or narrated by Chandra Skyye?

Although others have commented negatively on Chandrasekhar Skyye's narrating it's generally ok but I do agree that her male voices are a bit strange.
The book overall was lacking in story line but full of mild sex scenes. Even in the middle of crisis they took time out for the main characters to have considerable time to have sex.

What could Jessie Lane have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

More story!

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Practice male voices to make them more realistic.
