I loved this book! Highly relevant to our current social situation amidst Trump, Brexit and climate change. I can’t wait to read the next one.

Octavia Butler creates a believable dystopian narrative, poignant to our times. It’s hard to believe it was written in 1993!

I really enjoyed it. I love that Tomi Adeyemi included the Orishas in this book. I think it would make a great film and I hope she writes a sequel.

Langston Hughes so clearly paints a picture of the places he travels to and the people he meets. An important documentation of black histories pre WWII

This was a great audiobook to listen to, especially as someone with Jamaican heritage. Really nice voice too, fitted with the book perfectly. Would recommend.

What did you like most about The Big Sea?

Hughes' seemingly honest and vivid portrayal of his life is a must read. The way that the book centres on travel is a very interesting thread to follow, and an important example of a black man's experiences at the time

This book wasn't as listenable as the first two in the series. I didn't enjoy it as much as it felt like a departure from the other books.

Like many of Murukami's books, I enjoyed this for it's subtle sci fi/ fantasy narrative. The only off putting aspect of it was the long descriptions of lesbian sex and sex with teenage girls. The unnecessary detail just came off a bit creepy, like a mans fantasy.

This is a great book, really nice that it's partly patois. Such an enjoyable story overall (although there's a couple of horrible sexual violence bits). And the reading of it fitted perfectly.
