Where does Rescue Party rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Good short story, excellent narration, well worth a listen for short journeys

Who was your favorite character and why?

The alien species with the collective consciousness, how cool and calm they were when the rescue party was trapped.

What does Nick Boulton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Excellent narration as always by Nicholas Boulton. There is another version of this story read by another narrator, but no where near as good as Nicholas Boulton's delivery and the production of this version is vastly superior

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was short enough to be enjoyed in one sitting

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed Arthur C Clarke's sci~fi novels and want to listen to a well performed audio book, get this.

John Donne, Andrew Marvell, George Herbert, Thomas Carew, and Henry Vaughan: these were some of the 17th-century writers who devised a new form of poetry full of wit, intellect and grace, which we now call Metaphysical poetry. They wrote about their deepest religious feelings and their carnal pleasures in a way that was radically new and challenging to their readers. Their work was largely misunderstood or ignored for two centuries, until 20th-century critics rediscovered it, finding in it a deep originality and a willingness to experiment.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if you are interested in listening to well performed poetry and even if you don't usually listen to poetry, try it, you will find listening to them a joy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite poem was Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress - perfect performance by Nicholas Boulton. In fact loved all of Nicholas Boulton's reading, his was the highlights of the book, though the others were also very good, with Jonathan Keeble a close second.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I found my enjoyment and understanding greatly increased by these great readings.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it's only over an hour long so I did listen to it in one go - and have listened to it several times already

Any additional comments?

Worth a credit if you love poetry - in future I shall buy more poetry to listen to. With the right narration, such as this collection, poetry is a dream to listen to.

He was once a legendary highwayman. Now he's a recluse in a ruined French castle, with only a half-wild wolf for a companion. When Lady Leigh Strachan comes looking for a man to aid in her revenge, she's disillusioned to find that the famed Prince of Midnight couldn't help even if he cared to - which he doesn't. S. T. Maitland wants nothing to do with his legend, or with this fierce, beautiful, broken woman... until the old thrill of living on the cutting edge of danger begins to rise in his blood again.

What made the experience of listening to The Prince of Midnight the most enjoyable?

Without question, the narration skills of Nicholas Boulton.

This is a really great performance and definitely one not to be missed. If you
love historical novels, this is highly recommended for you

What other book might you compare The Prince of Midnight to, and why?

None other comes to mind, simply because books about highwaymen are not usually my cup of tea at all.

What about Nicholas Boulton’s performance did you like?

The tone, the pacing, the delivery, the accent, how he can switch between characters effortlessly, and it is very clear who is speaking.

Please can we have more books performed by Nicholas Boulton?

His narration skills are second to none and he is heads and shoulders above ANY narrator I have heard. If you are in the mood to listen to a well written romantic historical, he's your man.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The scene where the hero, ST is drunk is very funny and extremely well performed; you can't help but be amused by it. The narrator really brings the book and this scene to life. Brilliant!

Any additional comments?

I have three favourite Laura Kinsale books and previously have not had too much interest in reading some of her other books (Uncertain Magic or The Shadow and the Star, for example), purely because they did not appeal to me.

Listening to Nicholas Boulton read this book and the brilliant For My Lady's Heart, changed my mind and it would not be an exaggeration to say he has given me a new appreciation for Laura's books. I now have them all.

Would you listen to For My Lady's Heart again? Why?

Already listened to this several times - great choice of narrator from Laura Kinsale. Currently my favourite audio book.

On the basis of this audio book alone I've purchased all Laura Kinsale's other audio novels, all performed by Nicholas Boulton, and also looking out for other Nicholas Boulton audio books

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ruck and Melanthe - exactly as I imagined how they should be from reading the book previously. Loved the northern accent and characterisation for Ruck

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The dragon's tale, Ruck and Melanthe’s travels together, the time at Wolfscar, the jousting at Lancaster's court and many, many other great scenes

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many great moments in the book, too many to name

Any additional comments?

If you have been put off reading this novel because of the perceived difficulties with reading and understanding Middle English, listen to this brilliant audio performance by Nicholas Boulton and you'll wonder why this was ever an issue.

Thankfully this audio version is the original unabridged book (not the edited version where Laura Kinsale amended some of the Middle English).

I am not usually a fan of medieval novels at all but listening to this book has changed my views to be more open minded about them. Very highly recommended.
