With straight-talking advice from renowned psychotherapist Philippa Perry, this is the definitive guide for any parent looking to navigate their past, avoid repeating their own parents' mistakes and ensure they don't land their own kids in therapy. Through the combination of case studies, her own experiences as a parent, and therapeutic insight gained from a career spanning over 20 years, Perry tackles the wider issues of what it actually means to be a parent rather than getting bogged down in the little details.

I can see myself returning to this again and again as my daughter gets older.
Philippa Perry takes such a no nonsense approach to developing a strong relationship with our children and collaborating for a happier family life.
Thank you so much for writing it! I've recommended it to all my friends.

She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people - whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee....
