I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

This has been the best book I’ve listened to in a very long time and certainly includes the best narration I’ve ever heard! I was initially a bit put off by the length of it but it absolutely flew by and I’m just off to purchase the next one now!

Enjoyed the story but the narrator got on my nerves, all the female voices sounded like they were about to cry, but the most irritating part was the actual narration between speaking parts. I appreciate all narrators, it’s not a job that I could do st all, but I’m on the fence as to whether I can listen to the next book in the series or not which is a shame.

Well I enjoyed the actual concept and the story but blimey did it get a bit wordy at times, just felt like it was trying to be clever when it could have been more succinct and less rambly! Love the narrator though and would probably recommend the book but it wasn’t my favourite from this author.

I bought this ages ago and was then a little put off by the reviews saying that the narrator was naff - I personally didn’t find that to be the case at all and I enjoyed his narration, there were distinct voices for each character and yes he does use a higher pitch to show that it’s a woman talking but I’m not sure what else a man is supposed to do to sound like a woman?! Good story too and I’ll definitely listen to more from this author and narrator.

Well .... what can I say! I can’t remember why I got this book and it sat in my downloads for ages as I couldn’t quite bring myself to listen because I knew it was about a little girl going missing. I started with a slight feeling of apprehension but I was hooked by the narrators. It’s a slow burner and it isn’t a complex story but it brilliantly told and there are some twists and turns that you don’t expect. The ending had the hair on my arms standing up on end! This isn’t a seat of your pants book so don’t expect it to be massively fast paced, but it’s easy reading and beautifully narrated and I would recommend it.

And the moral of the story is .... always bet on Sean Barrett!!
