Ever since he became a Christian at the age of forty, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the whole Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor. Volume 2 of the NIV Audio Bible includes the Prophets, Gospels, Acts and Letters, covering the books of Isaiah to Revelation.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Like all the other reviews say, this is a really fantastic reading of the bible, but audible have put no thought whatsoever into it's organization.

The books chapters aren't labeled, and don't even match up with bible chapters (i.e you can sometimes have the end of one book and the beginning of the next one in the same chapter).

There is a pdf which lists out the books to chapters, but it's a separate pdf and not viable on your mobile.

Who was your favorite character and why?

.... god? .... it's supposed to be his book after all

What about David Suchet’s performance did you like?

To be honest its a more or less faultless reading, great diction intonation etc

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Complete NIV Audio Bible?

I'd fix the chapters!

it really shouldn't be hard, even if it can't go into the detail of specific verses, splitting each biblical book into a multi-part download would allow them to be sorted individually and then the chapter numbers could at least match up with the ones in the bible

Would you try another book written by The Great Courses and Luke Timothy Johnson or narrated by Professor Luke Timothy Johnson?

Yes, although I'd actually recommend you get "The History of Christianity" audiobook in preference to this one.

Both are interesting listens, but a lot of the content is either very similar or outright copy/pasted between the two. The history of Christianity one has the benefit of not referencing materials which aren't included in the audible version.

What will your next listen be?

I honestly don't know yet

What three words best describe Professor Luke Timothy Johnson’s voice?

Generic American er i need a 3rd, um ..... sausages?

Unlike some audiobooks, there's no bait and switch. What you hear in the sample is what it's like all the way through.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Story of the Bible?

I'd try and remove as much of the overlap between this book and the history of Christianity as possible (although i appreciate that to telling the story of one inherently involves telling the story of the other to a certain extent).

Any additional comments?

Audible really should include the pdf that you get if you brought this book on the great courses site.

Berlin, Summer 2011. Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive and well. Things have changed – no Eva Braun, no Nazi party, no war. Hitler barely recognises his beloved Fatherland, filled with immigrants and run by a woman. People certainly recognise him, albeit as a flawless impersonator who refuses to break character. The unthinkable, the inevitable happens, and the ranting Hitler goes viral, becomes a YouTube star, gets his own T.V. show, and people begin to listen.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Nothing really, the book is interesting, but more from a meta perspective of the Germans trying to make hitler humorous than for any of the actual content

What was most disappointing about Timur Vermes’s story?

asides from being generally unfunny (in the same vein as the psycopath test in a lot of ways) the main downside is the book just randomly ends rather than having a proper conclusion.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Julian Rhind-Tutt?

i dunno really, the narration itself was fine, but overall didn't seam very inspiring

What character would you cut from Look Who's Back?

nobody, just needs some more development
